Were The Nuggets Just Lucky Last Season To Have Such An Easy Road To The Finals?

Post#1 » by Memories » Mon May 20, 2024 2:50 am

Last year, the Nuggets faced 8 seed, 4 seed, 7 seed, and 8 seed in the finals. They faced a total of THREE play-in in that playoffs last season.

This year, they faced of course, another play-in 7th seed team, but this team faced an actual strong team as a 3rd seed, and get knocked out.

They were pegged as an unstoppable dynasty similar to the Bucks after their 2021 title when they won a title in a playoffs where almost every team was injured. And look at them now.

Will the Nuggets suffer the same fate?

Nah it’s over 121 to 107

Clippers go on a 15-0 run right after this, and eventually win the game.

16-4

There was injuries and parity that year. If that dude from BOS didn't get injured in the East Finals we probably would've lost

Yes they will. They aren’t dynasty teams but rather participant trophy winners

They weren’t just lucky. Murray was healthier and played a lot better. But I do think that the idea of them as this super dominant team despite playing only about 6.5 guys was laughable.

Denver was a team on a mission last year, you could've put any team in front of them and they'd still be the first to win 4 games.

16-4 against non 50 win teams though.

Yes without a doubt.

Like the Celtics this year.

It was no more lucky than the Raptors, Lakers, Bucks and Warriors before them.

What were those 50 win teams doing if they were so good?

Who cares bro? Those teams that didn’t win 50 games beat 50 win teams to play the Nuggets.

If those 50 win teams were any good, they would’ve been there playing the Nuggets and that includes my Celtics

Can we stop coming to “collect” on previous season teams full hindsight using data from following seasons. It doesn’t make sense.

Let me make a thread hating on the 70+ win warrior team by using the results of a future warrior season where they didn’t win the title.

They were 34-7 at home last regular season and 10-1 in playoffs only home playoff loss against Miami where they made nearly 20 3s on 49%. Combined home record from regular season and playoff was 44-8 which is a 69 win pace......

No one was beating Denver last year. The 1-3 seeds were getting bounced by those playin teams.... they still beat some good teams but Wolves and Suns were injured. Lakers and Heat were legit healthy teams they beat

Also biggest difference is they had great reliable size and depth w/ Bruce Brown and Jeff Green. This season they had Christian Braun, washed Reggie Jackson and Jrue Holidays lil bro.... They were a bottom 5 bench all season and it showed

You need to get extremely lucky to win the title these days.

2019-Raptors win due to catastrophic injuries to KD and Klay and Kawhi not being injured

2020-Lakers win due to AD and Rondo somehow managing to shoot 40% from three on high volume in the Bubble, allowing Rondo-AD-Dwight to play at the same time.

2021-Bucks win the title thanks to injuries to Harden and Kyrie, Ben Simmons completely melting down and going from a high level player to a non-NBA player over six weeks in probably the strangest and steepest decline in NBA history, and the Suns not shooting any threes despite Bud's scheme surrendering threes.

2022-Warriors somehow get Gary Payton II, old Steph, old Klay, old Draymond, and Otto Porter Jr (!!!) to stay healthy for an entire postseason run and Andrew Wiggins plays hard for the first and last time in his career.

2023-Nuggets face no good teams due to a weak West and the Heat's absurd shooting luck getting through the East before running out in the Finals.

That 7th seed was title pedigree Lebron and AD who obliterated the “2 seed” and then beat the defending nba champs.

But I guess road would’ve been tougher if that grizzlies team and that 2 seed label snuck thru.
