Why did the Mavericks not trade for Pascal Siakam?

The Raptors got peanuts for Siakam and it was rumored that the Mavs were not willing to include Green of all people in potential trade talks. Not saying that the Mavericks would have beat the Celtics with Siakam but they would have had a punchers chance at least.

I don't think Mavs had the ability to match 3 FRP's, and what TOR probably believes to be a 4th when they got Brown.

Brown also had a short deal. To make that trade they would have had to include some cotracts TOR certainly would not want like THJ, Maxi, Grant, ect...

I don't think DAL was a real suiter for Pascal

The 3 FRP's picks sound good on paper but they are the 19th and 29th pick in this year draft and a 2026 top 3 or 4 protected. I can't remember which. Hardaway Jr. expires at the same time as Brown Jr. They should have been a suitor.

Brown expires this summer if Toronto wants him to. Dallas would also have had to add in Grant Williams or Maxi at least to get the money to work, both of whom have multi-year deals that didn't look good. Dallas didn't really have good draft picks to trade that were enough to overcome worse matching salary.

Facts, but I think the idea was to flip Brown immediately for a first, or do it next year if possible. It just didn't materialize, Bruce was getting a lot of love after the finals, and is still the more valuable player than anything DAL could have given up. If a trade doesn't work itself out they got salary off the books. I think they are able to trade him though, and get another protected FRP out of the deal.

That's still more than DAL could have offered, as the pick they sent out was OKC's this year for Gaff, and I would rather hav a Pacers unprotected pick than a DAL unprotected pick which is what they sent out for PJ.

They also made the OG trade to bring in RJ, who is on an absolute bargain of a contract, and when they did that, there was no need for Green's MLE level contract or skill.

I think the Raps could have gotten a better deal, but it wasn't going to be from the Mavs

It sounded like the Raptors really wanted Green but that the Mavs would not inlude him. If they would have included him I think the Raptors would have rather made a deal with the Mavs. They wanted Murray from the KIngs but they had no interest in including him which makes sense but then so much with Green.

What would be the offer that beat Indy’s?

Also would the Mavs be willing to Max him?

The Raptors were rumored to really have liked Green. I do not know how to make the money work now as both teams made moves. Something like Hardaway Jr., Green, Hardy and a 1st plus salary filler for Siakam and a small contract to make the money work. Toronto wanted young talent like with the OG trade. It went from Murray on the Kings to the Mavs young guys to bad picks and Brown Jr. from the Pacers.

There was already outrage over Siakam's return from the Pacers. There would have been riots if a deal like yours got made.

Siakim is actually not a great fit as a corner 3&D guy in the Luka offense.

Gafford and PJ > Siakam indisputably for them

Not really. People hear 3 FRP's and blow their loads. The picks are trash.

Also no guarantee he would re-sign there. We know he wouldn't commit to the Hawks and Kings, for all we know Mavs put feelers out and he said no.

Someone did not watch the playoffs. Siakam is not a 3 and D guy. He is a boaderline All-Star who would have have taken so much pressure off of Luka and Irving and would be the best defender on the Boston wings.

Ok so FRP's are trash but those Dallas pieces aren't?

That package is less than the Indy package by quite a bit.

I would rather have Green and Hardy then the 19th and 29th pick in this piss poor draft for sure. EASILY! You are making my point for me. If those guys are no good why did they not give them up for Siakam then?

Siakam shot the corner 3 at 46% this year. Washington shot the corner 3 at 24% this year.

You're delusional if you would rather have Gafford/PJ over Siakam.

This right here….he was their priority before the deadline but they moved on once they realized he was unattainable.
