As expected. Siakim secures the bag in Indy.

Indiana really had no choice, but damn that’s a lot of money for a player that will see significant decline once the Pacers are really ready to compete.

Indeed a no-brainer for the Pacers. Good for him.

Spotrac did not waste any time getting his projected contract updated:

It seems like a lot now, won’t though once the cap sky rockets again with the new tv money.

Ok, I honestly though it would be way higher. It is almost 50M a year, criminally high it would seem, but thats just what Siakam costs in 2024.
Looking back at some contracts signed few years back, they look like such a steal now. Like when you see what Sabonis or Aaron Gordon or Jalen Brunson makes, damn, these teams still have these guys locked in for a couple of years.
Maybe 50 a year sounds fine to me, because yesterday we had a Tobias Harris thread, and I was reminded how much he made. In my head that guy was so overpaid at 20 Mil a year, no man, this season Tobias Harris made 39 Mil...

I'd guess that this contract won't age well, but they had no choice if you wanted to keep Halliburton in Indy.

Yeah, with cap smoothing, the last year of this contract the Cap should be just over $185 million.

He's a good player and the Pacers couldn't just let him leave after trading for him midseason. This is expected.

I think it is cheap if you compare with how much Brown is making.

Better than paying injured prone OG that kind of money. Didn't you get the memo?

They made it to the conference finals with Haliburton playing pretty meh for several months. They're competing today.

not really; they both are from the same draft class; both of them are consider among the top 3-5 players from that draft class

If their young players improve, the 'expected' decline of Siakam can be offset by the production uptick from the youth. Siakam had a great post season, so for them to let him walk for nothing would be silly.

That's a fair contract. $47M AAV for a second tier All-Star is the current going rate. It's also only 4 years instead of 5, which given his age, is a plus.

It's going to be crazy when players are getting 100mil per year contracts.
If these guys are smart and start investing that money post career they could legit become owners of their own leagues. I would start up my own league if I was a guy like LeBron.
Something like Ice cube with the big 3, but LeBron has a much bigger brand his league would get more views on his name alone.
