1st Team All Overrated (since 2000)

PG - Jason Williams. His game was made for ESPN. All flash, no substance. Great passer, horrific shooter and not a guy you could win with as your starting PG. Cared more about making a fancy pass vs a practical one. All Playground 1st Team.

SG - Tracy McGrady. Great talent but no heart. Put up empty stats like Dominique, Vince and others. Couldn’t lead his team anywhere in the playoffs. Mental midget.

SF - Carmelo Anthony. Gets credited for being a generational scorer but never averaged 29 PPG for even one season in his career. That’s worse than 5’9” Isaiah Thomas  Acts like he deserves a statue in Denver for not winning a damn thing.

PF - Kevin Garnett. Led his team to 7 consecutive 1st round playoff exits. Never scored 40+ in a playoff game. Only scored 30+ nine times in 143 playoff games. Offensively inept. Top 10 in blocked shots just once. Second banana masquerading as an alpha for 15 years.

C - Shaq O’Neal. Massively underachieved. Should have been Wilt and Russ combined. Out of shape for the second half of his career. Sucked at FT’s as a rook and sucked just as bad in his last year. Gave away thousands of points on missed FT’s. Never led the league in rebounding even though athletically inferior guys like Swen Nater, Truck Robinson, Bill Laimbeer, Michael Cage and Rudy Gobert did.

Agree on Carmelo, and, as much as it pains me to say it because I love him as a player, but KG, especially on these boards. The PC top 100 put him ahead of magic, curry, bird, kobe. Seen some posters say he's on MJ's level. 1 trip past the first round in 11 seasons as the Wolves' best player..

J-Will is rated fine. No one considers him much of anything besides being fun to watch. TMac is more of a "what if". So many injuries, he was basically cooked by 26. Another couple healthy years with Yao and they definitely have some success.

Shaq is also rated fine. Most people consider him on the lower end of top 10, his resume clearly has him there. Sure, if he tried and could hit FTs, he could have been top 5, but that doesn't mean he's overrated.

Melo don't deserve to be in the top 75 all-time list....He make the second round only twice in his career....

I wanted to stop reading after 1, and definately regretted not quitting after reading 2.

The KG love fest on the GB is baffling. Probably a bunch of stat nerds jerking off to his advanced metric stats and not realizing that the game is played on the court with a ball and not inside some computer matrix algorithm. Shaq is overrated based on his 3-peat, specifically his Finals MVP’s. Overall, he won a lone scoring title, no rebounding titles, no block titles or DPOTY awards and was habitually out of shape and lazy. A great 3-year run doesn’t get him into my top 10 though.

Shaq had the most dominant peak we've seen this century, not overrated.

Your "all-overrated team" would probably win 5 or 6 championships in a row in any era if they were all on the same team. Just saying.

Nah. It always makes me laugh when people assume you can throw 5 All Stars together and win. The best teams win, not the best rosters. There’s only one ball so 5 All Stars wouldn’t each be able to be the man and get 20 shots a night. Chemistry would suffer, egos would be bruised, guys would sulk. Would never work.

PG: Kyrie Irving. People act like he is some ATG player and routinely call him the most skilled player ever. Yet without LeBron he would be a nobody. Any time he was in charge of his own team he failed miserably. And as a #2 aside from the LBJ years he hasn't done jack. Complete no-show in the 2024 Finals

SG: James Harden. Gaudy RS numbers and routinely chokes/flames out in the playoffs.

SF: Kawhi Leonard. Primadonna that couldn't accept the Spurs injury diagnosis and quit on the team and forced his way out for peanuts, living off his 2019 title as if it was soley due to him when the 2019 Raptors had an elite roster/depth. Won a FMVP in 2014 that should have gone to Duncan for playing ok defense on LeBron. Routinely injured and forced the Clips to mortgage their future for PG which failed spectacularly

PF: Karl-Anthony Towns. Charmin soft, self-proclaimed "Greatest big man shooter ever." Only found some success when a true alpha made it to the team. Remember in 2016 when GMs were surveyed and the majority picked Towns to start a franchise with? LMAO

C: DeAndre Jordan. Owes his entire career/reputation to Chris Paul. How TF did this dude make 1st team All-NBA???

Jason Williams - How can a player be overrated that has 0 All Star appearances or any kind of awards. Never heard anyone ever say anything else about him than that he was fun to watch and threw flashy passes, which is the case. Also the Heat won a title with him as starting PG, just saying.

All the other players you are mentioning - There are arguments to be made, yours don't really make that much sense and seem super random. Gives the impression that you didn't really watch them play and are just comparing numbers and throw in some random picked stats.

Any list that does not have Klay Thompson or Jayson Tatum on it is invalid. At least someone mentioned Kyrie Irving.

Overrated doesn’t mean he wasn’t dominant or great, it just means people think he was better then he actually was. Most people have him in their top 10. That’s overrated yo me. In any order, I’ve got Russ, Wilt, Oscar, West, Kareem, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Hakeem, Duncan and Lebron over him. That’s 11 players. Kobe and Curry have legit arguments over him as well.

I kinda agree with OP on Shaq. I wouldn't say he's overrated, moreso that he underachieved. He had top 3 all-time talent and did not maximize it. If he had Kobe's work ethic we may know him as the undisputed GOAT. Instead he has to settle for G13 classification only
