Here's the premise.

Your team can add either Victor Wembanyama or Jayson Tatum for one season and one season only, next year the 2024-25 NBA season. You don't have to give anything up for either, but you can only pick one. The Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs are willing to lend them to your team for one year, but after the season they go back to their original team.

well we're talking about next year, but to your point they would've still won, only in 4 instead of 5 games.

Should the playoffs matter?

Because Tatum was under a lot of pressure to win. It was championship or bust so now that the pressure is off does that change anything for Wemby voters. We slso dont know what Wemby looks like under similar pressure.

Tatum, without much hesitation for me honestly.

Wemby might be the greatest physical talent we've ever seen, but there's still a mental side to the game. He's never had to deal with the pressure of being expected to win. He's never had a teammate good enough where he has to learn to mesh his game with theirs. He's never played a team 3 games in a row, never mind a full playoff series where the gameplans are much more developed.

I don't know what Wemby's development curve would be. I'd bet good money he eventually passes Tatum. But I'd be surprised if was this year.

Neither. As would be true for all the crap teams. Next draft is a big one.

I’d take Wemby if I had to, though. There’s nothing Tatum can possibly do as well as Wemby’s growing ability to anchor a defense.

It probably really depends on your team. I’d still take Tatum next year but Wemby longer term
