Light years ahead VS Not 1, not 2, not 3…

It’s off season so here is a fair question. Which cocky quote aged worse ?

I’ve never understood the fascination with the Heat comments. It was a pep rally, who cares what they said, specially since they actually won multiple titles.

It’s like someone criticizing teams for saying they were going to go back to back during a championship parade, who cares, it’s a pep rally.

One of those teams went to 5 straight championships, won 3, then managed to get back and win in 2022 when everyone assumed they were done.

Not 1, not 2, not 3...it was basically Lebron acknowledging that he was trying to stack the deck to get his titles.

Of course, he got a taste of what that meant several years later when KD joined the Warriors.

I think the "light years" comment aged way worse considering the turnover in the Warriors FO and the inexcusable blunder of drafting Wiseman #2 along with handing out a horrible contract to Poole and having to dump him soon after. Not to mention them siding with Green and his violent antics. Warriors were not light years ahead of anyone. They were incredibly lucky to be blessed with a player like Steph Curry, period.

I agree with this take. It also helps that Steph Curry is so well liked. I mean, who hates/hated Steph Curry?

Yeah it's not like it's that insane compared to what they achieved. They ended up making 4 straight finals and winning 2, and they were derailed by injuries. People were just mad at Lebron so it resonated, and the 2011 loss amplified it.

We've seen players on 0.500 win teams claim they are contenders. Derrick Rose had his infamous "they're saying us and Golden State are the super teams" and proceeded to win 31 games, one less than the season before.

For context, the light years comment was made in early 2016 and they went on to blow a 1-3 lead for the biggest collapse in finals history, then had guys like Draymond Green pleading with Durant to come join them.

I understand that and don't get me wrong it was cocky to say. But they had just won a title in 2015 and were like 67-7 when Lacob made that comment in 2016. They had accomplished quite a lot up to that point and were well on their way to a second title.

LeBron and the Heat had not even taken the court yet.

It perpetually amuses me that the anti-James crowd references the Heat rally so often, since LeBron didn't guarantee, predict, or promise anything; all he said was that he went to Miami to win 'not one, not two, etc.' championships. He didn't say they would win anything.

He went to a team to try to win as many rings as he could-- just like every other player who wants to win.

“honestly, it’s gone be easy”

Pep rally or not, it was a weak uncompetitive move and he was wrong about the ease.
LeBron has a 17.8% field goal percentage and a 12.5% 3-point percentage in clutch situations, and also made 20 of 116 game winning/tying shots in 4th/OT during his career

There's just a lot of people who live miserably and like to be snarky and take it out on other people or things.

The light years ahead comment. The Warriors were never light years ahead, they just benefitted from a once in a lifetime unexpected cap loophole.

The light years ahead comment also had to do with the style of play which up until Golden State nobody really embraced. So playing a fresher style which involved the ball movement three point shooting splash brothers, winning in 2015, being 67-7 when the comment came out all had to do with Lacob saying they were "light-years" ahead. Which, as I stated earlier I do think it was pretty cocky to say but the comment was AFTER a decent sample size of success.

They were something like 134-22 combined in the regular season when that comment was released.

LeBron made his comment before one game was played and then went 2-2 in the Finals. Not bad but definitely not what they expected.

What?

The Heatles didn't win multiple rings...they won two...and twice they got humbled/humiliated in the finals...they underachieved

It doesn’t acknowledge that at all, but okay?

Buddy, multiple literally means more than one.
