Time to spank France and send their fans into oblivion on their soil.

Yeah Serbia just had their Super Bowl and spent every bit of mental energy and choked it away. I'd expect Germany to take the Bronze.

I posted this toward the end of the last thread too...but I think it's quite possible that if Embiid chose France, it's Germany vs. Serbia for the Gold.

He may have messed up France with way too many slow big dudes, yet he was instrumental in the US overcoming Serbia. What if multiversal stuff.

Fairly close matchup...never underestimate the team with the best player.

I don't think so, France would love Embiid's offense. They're living on defense at the moment.

France also likely do better in group stage and the order of play is likely completely twisted.

Germany is a decent enough team on the same tier level as Serbia to overcome one guy. Now if Serbia's other guys play like they did against the U.S. then yeah I can see a bronze. But I don't see it after losing in that heartbreaking fashion after going all out against the U.S. Basketball is half mental at the end of the day.

They're not just one guy though. Everyone knows Bogdan is a legit, high quality NBA player every team would want and play. They've got other quality guys too.

Should be a great matchup. Pretty prideful basketball nation, so sure they'll want to show their character and try to bounce back.

Need Embiid to go for 30 while Gobert embarrassingly sits on the bench cause he hurts more than helps, all while Embiid rips apart his French passport as he gets his gold medal under a storm of boos. I want nothing less.

I'm sure pride will be there, Germany will similarly have that pride being upset by France. I just think the fashion in which Serbia lost is a tough to bounce back from immediately following. Almost always happens in sports where that team that blew a big opportunity often follows it up with a dud. But we'll see - I'm sure it'll still be a good game.

Both DNPs from Tatum was against Serbia. It was a matchup thing.

I'm not gonna pretend like I fully understand it but at least it was consistent.

The funniest thing about the French booing Embiid is that he has no business representing France. Never ever even lived there. It's hilarious.

Man props to Serbia, what a great team. France is also rolling, the matchups seem better for US on paper but with the home crowd it’s gonna be a dog fight. Need the best from KD/Curry/Durant, they need to lead the way - our bigs will be ready to roll.

Embiids letter to Macron, French president

“ President, I know your sincere interest in basketball and its development and, more generally, in the sport that brings honour to France. However, I am not writing to tell you about the NBA season that is opening and for which I have high hopes with my club, the Philadelphia 76ers. I am now in a leadership role and aspire to make my team a serious contender for the title.

I am writing to tell you about France. Although I spent most of my youth in the United States and France, I am a Cameroonian national. I was born in 1994 in Yaoundé. Cameroon will therefore always remain an important part of my identity. However, another one is French. Part of my family is in fact French and, in addition to sharing the language, I have often stayed in France.

A s soon as I have the opportunity, I visit my aunts, Suzanne and Lucie, living in Courtry and Courcouronnes, as well as my first cousin Pierre, who lives in Evry. I have fond memories of my summer vacations spent in France, like the summer of 2009, during which I was able to spend the entire month of July enjoying the capital. Moreover, I still regularly go to Paris, where I wish to acquire a permanent second home.

Moreover, after discussions with the French Basketball Federation, my choice has been made. I would like to take the steps to obtain French naturalisation and thus be eligible for selection with the Blues. I therefore do not wish to play for any other national team. I have sent a dossier to this effect to the Ministry of the Interior and Foreign Affairs. I have never worn the colours of a national team. It would be an immense honour for me to join this French team to participate in the next major international competitions, first and foremost the 2024 Olympic Games.

I evaluate the solemnity of my request, what it represents, what it means, but also, in some respects, its duration and complexity in relation to the usual criteria for granting nationality. I therefore ask for your support for these initiatives, support without which they cannot succeed. I am of course available to you and your services to support this common ambition that we share with the French basketball team and its managers. Thanking you for your attention to my request, I ask you, Mr. President, for the expression of my deepest consideration. Joel Embiid".

Replying to someone said if he were Tatum or Hali and knew he wouldn’t play much in the Olympics they wouldn’t have gone.

IT’S THE OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE!!! With the greatest trio of this generation! They get to experience this moment, Paris, with other elite athletes and meet people and attend games and matches AND win a Gold. Tatum brought his kid with him and he gets to experience France. Kerr can’t play everyone every game.
