Will KD play the 2028 Olympics?

Post#1 » by rand » Sun Aug 11, 2024 9:43 am

Assuming he's still playing at a high level, KD would surely be tempted to go for a 5th gold medal. He could pad his all-time Olympic stat records at the same time. Will he still be playing at a high enough level to warrant inclusion on the team? If so, and assuming he's healthy, do you believe he would ultimately sign on for one more run?

He may very well be retiring in 4 years.

KD is such a hooper I'm sure he'll play until his body completely falls apart. he'll be turning 40 just after the 2028 olympics and he'll probably be just as skilled as he is now.

I think LeBron has better chance to be in the next Olympics than KD

Sad but true. People keep saying that KD is a hooper but so are all the other top players. KD never really had a motor so in 4 years that limitation is going to be even more painful. Is he going to take a bench role to extend his career? You tell me.

KD is 35 turning 36 in Sept. with his injuries and body build, I don’t think he should play in 2028.

Maybe Bron plays at age 44, lol

Not Yo Ham Lakers!

LA Olympics would be a hell of a way to retire and lock in Olympic legend status

KD’s body will break down by then. He doesn’t have LeBron’s fitness discipline really (and I don’t blame him, LeBron is a freak and it’s not normal).

KD already had bunch of injuries. Maybe 2 years more before he retires due to it.

If he is still one of the 12 best options in four years, we're in trouble.

This. He will be 40and a couple steps slower…
Probably not playing anymore but maybe.
If he is selected to the team it will be stupid.

I believe (and hope) that he will play the Olympics in 2028.

He will be 39 years old and probably not a first option on offense anymore...but with his skillset, his crazy length and his accolades he would be a nice addition to USA basketball for sure.

Health is gonna be the X factor. We know that he will want to play for sure and if he wants to play Grant Hill is gonna give him an spot on the 12-man roster.

Probably play the 2016 Melo role of coming off the bench and giving them valuable points/minutes.

It's possible, but he's not a LeBron-level freak physically. Players like him are typically aging out after mid 30's.

I think the sleeper to be an old-head is Kyrie. He'll be Curry's age now. They have similar games. He plays younger cuz of his health & hiatus. And he turned it up on d in the playoffs last yr. He's a better bet than Durant.

There is another potential hurdle for any American with the ability to challenge Durant’s scoring record: Durant, 35, hasn’t ruled out playing in the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

“As far as ’28, who knows? We’ll see,” Durant said.

I think he will be selected but won’t play. He will be the Joe Ingles for USA in the Olympics.

(Just for reference here, I’m Australian and Joe was selected to coach our team, much the same as Durant will be selected to coach the team too)

In four years he will still be 7 foot with 7’4 wingspan and one of the best shooters on earth

It will depend on how he ages but like it was said, I would be troubled if no one else can replace him on the roster. Tatum should logically be the guy who will fill his and Lebrons role.

I don't think it will be because nobody can replace him, but he will be a legacy pick like Diana Taurasi.

KD said he intends on playing until the wheels fall off. Basketball and business is all the man knows. He's doing what he loves and his connection to the Olympics is legendary.
