I was thinking about this, depending on how you view Durant, is it possible that CP3 is ranked higher all time?

At the moment on RealGM TOP100 2023

20th Paul
22th Durant

so there are planty of arguments Paul>Durant

I mean, he doesn't to these eyes, but I have KD as borderline top 10 if not in the top 10. CP3 is more like 15ish; above guys like Kobe and Barkley, but maybe not quite the same impact as KD.

I’m one of KDs biggest critics, but really I can’t think of any reason why CP3 could be ahead of KD.

Shocker!

There's a statistical case for CP3. Advanced stats like RAPM and BPM love him. But KD has greater accomplishments and absolutely crushes the eye test. That's hard to argue against using a narrow statistical edge.

I think CP3 is a slightly better floor raiser but KD gives a higher ceiling to a team.

I'm one of the biggest KD hater, but KD is above CP3 pretty comfortably.

I think you will find some arguments in 168 posts. Also I am not on Paul side, I didn't think about these two, but if you are looking for arguments, you will find them easly.

CP3 is better than Kobe and Barkley? CP3 has played with everyone but LeBron and still has no CHIP.

Nope tbh I only really consider Malone in the top 15-20 category in regards to ringless greats (Barkley to a lesser degree). Cp3 is 25-35 for me.

I can certainly appreciate the arguments raised, but when it comes down to a key factor that has to be looked at when comparing two greats: Durant has two championships and Paul has none. People may downplay the validity of those chips with the stacked Warriors but Durant wasn't just a passenger and was the Finals MVP for both of them.

Paul has been in the Finals once during his 19 season career and wasn't even the best player on that team. It should also be noted that Durant took teams to the Finals in 2012 and arguably 2019 as the best player (he did miss the WCF in 2019 though).

Then you factor in Olympic Gold Medals - 4 for Durant vs 2 for Paul.

Paul has had a magnificent career but I can't see how the above would put him above Durant.

it's hard to compare true PG vs scoring machine, way too different playing styles, but...

Paul off -5.3 nrtg
Durant off +1.8 nrtg

Paul elevate +6.2 nrtg
Durant elevate +2.4 nrtg

The difference between both are off is 7.1 nrtg. Its huge gap. Paul needed to put way more work to keep his teams on the water. Also all Durant teams had all time perimeter players for good balance (Westbrook/Harden/Irving/Booker/Curry), Paul's team were lacking of all time level bigs (Griffin/West) or overlapping skills with other perimeter players (Harden/Booker). My point is that KD had the best players what would need to win (elite guards) whole career and Paul didnt have elite bigs to win it all.

Rings are about context. CP3 had less favourable context than some others is all. If Paul doesn't get hurt in 2018 he likely has a ring for example.

KAJ/LBJ/MJ in the GOAT tier
Magic/Duncan/Shaq/Russell/Wilt next
Kobe/Curry/Hakeem/Bird in the 3rd group
KD is in the next group with Dr. J/West/Oscar/Moses/KG/Dirk

CP3 is in the next group, which is 20-35-LOTS of guys are close here.

I see no argument that puts CP3 ahead of KD, by my tiers
