2024-25 NBA Rookie Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by bisme37 » Sun Oct 13, 2024 8:50 pm

We usually have a thread dedicated to discussion of rookies. Here it is, please enjoy.

The poll is set up so you can change your votes as the season progresses. If it becomes clear that the poll options should change as things play out, feel free to yell at me and I'll re-evaluate.

Cheers good pals.

A little odd you left off the #5 pick and put him in the "other" category.

I changed it. Feel free to change your vote. I only have 10 options to work with and Holland was like 12th in ROY betting odds when I looked. But I agree he should have his own option.

I think Castle wins it and Edey does really well

My top 3 predictions that i'll look back on when the season is about to end is:

1. Castle
2. Edey
3. Reed

I have Zach Edey as the ROY. Castle, Risacher and Sarr have a chance, but I think it will be a runaway.

If this is a "who will win ROY thread", then the clear favourite should be Edey, as a 4 year college guy who will get a starting spot on a good team that complements him well. If we're looking for the best players 5+ years down the road, I like Castle and Sheppard better. As a Spurs fan, I have to say I love what I've seen from Castle so far, he's got wing size and strength (6'6" strong like an ox) like we knew, but the question marks were centered around his PG skills and shooting. Well, so far it looks like his handles, passing and instincts are indeed those of a PG, and his shooting is better than anticipated. If he continues to develop I see no reason why he shouldn't be a high caliber PG in the league and a core piece of a contender.

Zach Edey. Really tall with some potential. I think he'll be good.

He probably won't get the opportunity to show it this year, but I think Rob Dillingham has a chance to be one of the best players in this class. There will be nights like tonight where he will struggle with his shot, but he entered today with 14 assists to just 1 turnover through his first two preseason games. That's huge for him and his development going forward.

What did they do to Ryan Dunn. Not expecting the percentages to hold up, of course, but the dude was scared to shoot in college and now he's shooting 3s on volume. That must have been a lot of hard work in the off-season after he realized that he needed to shoot in the NBA. If he can shoot reasonably well and hoists them, he'll be a major steal.

Apparently he was a decent shooter in HS.

Ryan Dunn won’t score enough to win ROY, but looks like he has good shot to get on a all rookie team if his offense can keep him on the floor, he’s a special defender

Ryan Dunn shooting 35%+ from 3 on good volume is a top 5 player in this class. The shot looks good even. If he can keep it respectable, this turnaround falls into "Jesus turning water into wine" category

Edey, Clingan, Risacher all seem like they are legit. Dark Horse is Dillon Jones, but will he get enough PT?

That would absolutely shock me. He's a project.
