Greatest Team Ever

Post#1 » by Djoker » Wed Oct 16, 2024 10:18 pm

The three best teams of all time are very likely the 1971 Bucks, the 1996 Bulls and the 2017 Warriors. Their regular season and postseason combined rNet is so far above all others that they are outliers as can be seen on the graph.

But which is your GOAT team?

The Warriors and it's not even close. Those other teams wouldn't get out of the 2nd round of the West in today's league.

I don't care what metrics are used... I can't get on board with any team from 1967 - 1976 as one of the greatest teams.

Too many of the game's better/best players weren't even in the NBA at the time.

[Note: They also beat a 36-win team in round 1 and 42-win team in the NBA Finals. That definitely helps with the advanced playoff stats.]

Today's league is as weak as ever.

I'd go '17 Warriors narrowly over the '96 Bulls. They're the only two seriously in the discussion imo.

'71 Bucks are towards the top of the next tier, but the existence of the ABA stretched the talent too thin (similar to arguments against the Bulls and 90's expansion, but more extreme).
I bought a boat.

Except it's 1986. What's next, including the Mikan Lakers?

My cousin's high school team was undefeated and won every game by 20+. Maybe they were the GOAT basketball team. After all, they couldn't control who they played.

I dont get the logic here because when do you set the cutoff year. If you include the 96 Bulls which im not sure you are then why cut off a team with only a decade gap. I think the 87 Lakers, 83 Sixers and 86 Celtics all get mentioned among Goat teams.

Ill take the 96 Bulls. Would be amazing to see them against the 17 Warriors. I agree with Homer as well, 86 Celtics were ridiculous and should have been an option.

good job to compared a high school team to a NBA team.....

So the context of the league they played in is relevant then.
