These are some of his highlights. Anyone heard about him? He was a 4 star high school player.

I follow him because he has Taiwan blood, his mother is taiwanese. And he represented Taiwan national team during summer vacation.

Does he has NBA potential?

Obviously, he is very academically capable(Harward). And he said if he can not play in the NBA, he will pursue career as a lawyer or doctor.

He is from California and he did play against Bronny. And from an interview I saw, he did not think Bronny is NBA caliber.

I am wondering is he better than Bronny?

From the highlights, I tend to think he is better than Bronny. I know they playing at different levels. But from their moves, I think Hinton is more offensive gifted. Bronny should be better defensively. Hinton has better size at 6-5.

Any thought?

Bronny was 2-9 with 5 turnovers in the g league. My 60 year old accountant with 2 knee replacements is a better player than Bronny.

I'd be interested to see some responses to the OP's question as well. I'm not sure how much we can make out of games versus Navy and Marist, but he does look very skilled from those highlights.

He definitely showed some things, but the competition is so poor it’s tough to say. He can always run in the pre-draft workouts, see what feedback he gets, and if it’s not great transfer to a school where he can put some tape up against better competition.

Not sure why it’s important to ask if he’s better than Bronny to see if he’s more NBA ready. Bronny did not get a contract for NBA talent reasons. Better to compare him against actual players fighting for a spot on the bench.

Just checked, he is also from Cali  .

About the actual video. The thing is, a lot of times it's not even how players actually play if they have the right measurements, vertical and speed. Players often get more drafted for their potential than how they actually played in College. He is listed as 6-5, so has at least the right height for his position. He showed some versatility in scoring, looks like he has a solid jumpshot and also doesn't shy away from contact and driving to the paint.

On the other side, while the commentator states that he is athletic, he actually doesn't seem very fast and explosive, while playing against relatively week competition. Like when he goes for the tip in the first video he barely gets in the air when jumping. He definitely plays bellow the rim and does a lot of layups where a more athletic player would probably dunk. If you ever watched games were a super athletic player plays against less athletic, lower competition, it basically looks like he is playing in fast forward mode. If you watch at about 25 seconds in the 2nd clip, he manages to get a steal and is the first one that starts running, from what it looks like at full speed and a player that is not defending him and starts running after him is able to keep that pace, without giving the impression to go full speed and is almost able to catch up with him. So in that sense I think the NBA game might be at least for now to fast for him, especially at his position. Of course depends how he develops and it's based on about 6 minutes of highlights that don't show things like his defense and so on.

Just in comparsion, since he was mentioned and played on the same team. Look how much more athletic a smaller Jeremy Lin looks during his time in Harvard and he went undraftet.

Obviously he's better than Bronny. Can we not do this where we compare every fringe NBA player to him?

Everyone can see now that Bronny isn't even good enough to be in the G-league so can we please just let it go?

He´s a very good player in a below average team, so he was handed to keys to the offense since day 1. Coach Amaker lost some touch on the recruiting scenario but next recruiting class sounds promising. If Hinton is not lured by NIL money than Harvard may have a shot in going back to the March Madness

Another Asian Ivy Leaguer from Princeton. Is he also better than Bronny? He’s the same age, 20 years old.

He wears number 4 because of Jeremy Lin.

I guess they know each other, there's PLENTY of connection between them.

Side notes: Rip Hamilton is his uncle.

Thanks for the input, that's what I would like to read. Thanks.

I think Senior Jeremy Lin is way better than Freshman Hinton, no doubt about it.

But Freshman Hinton might be better than Freshman Lin? Thoughts?

Based on what I read and heard. I think he would spend 4 years in Harward, unless NBA draft him.

He is from a fairly wealthy and highly educated family. And Asian parents tend to values education more. Harvard seems to be a pretty good diploma to have.

His older brother also plays basketball, he plays for Cornell. Not as gifted though.

I mean yeah that's a fair point. Unfortunately there isn't much available from Lin in Harvard and of course not from his first season. So a 1 vs 1 freshman comparsion isn't possible. But I absolutely expect that you are right, just based on the fact that Hinton is dominating already from the start, just not in that way what you typically want from an NBA player, if you know what I mean. As somebody mentioned, since he is in Harvard, he'll probably stay 4 years, so generally he has 4 years to get more athletic.

I assume you don't know who Chris Copeland is. Actually thought about him last week and watched that video bellow  . He played for a long time in Europe and came as a 28 year old rookie to the Knicks. The guy was super unathletic for NBA standards, but he could really score. Was top scorer of the German League and the MVP of the Belgium League the season before he came to the NBA. To point out, those aren't the big leagues in Europe. He basically had an "old man's game", kind of a small forward version of Zach Randolph that plays like he's Carmello. Super effective scorer when he got the chance to play, even got some Rookie of the Year votes. Still almost got no playtime in the Playoffs, signed a Taxpayer MLE with Indiana and pretty much spend most of his time on the bench again. But when he played he scored.

He is kind of the player that I meant with being effective in scoring, but not in an NBA way. I enjoy watching those type of players, but it's really rare that they even get the chance to get some playing time in the league. So that would so to speak be the major concern for Hinton. Being already 22 (if he stays 4 years), playing in the Ivy League, looking less "sexy" for GMs that those 19 year old players with crazy verticals. But of course it doesn't automatically mean that he'll have no chance to make it. Until now his stats right from the start are of course super impressive, so it will be interesting to see how he develops.
