Is that all she wrote for Embiid's legacy?

Post#1 » by WestGOAT » Sun Nov 24, 2024 12:47 pm

Man, it feels like this is the end for Embiid. Dude looks checked out, mentally and physically, after getting his Olympic Gold and that fake MVP. Even the Embiid stans who used to defend him to death here are nowhere to be found. Kinda wild how quick the tide has turned.

So, what are we really gonna remember Embiid for?

• Shameless media campaign for that MVP. Man was almost crying on national TV about him not getting what he "deserved"
• Stat-padding against bad teams, but being a regular no-show in the playoffs due to injuries
• Despite these injuries going for Olympic Gold. Biggest FU to the 76ers franchise
• Egregious Flopping – he really took it to heights (or lows) never seen before in the NBA
• Bullying and acting tough against other NBA players, such as KAT and Allen
• Pouting and acting immature when things didn’t go his way.

Honestly, it sucks though we never got to see him fully healthy in a playoff series, especially against Giannis or Jokic. Could have been historical match-ups. Instead, he’ll probably go down as another “what if” story in NBA history. At one point, he was on track to be a top-3 big of his era, but now it’s more like a case of wasted potential.

We have seen badly out of shape Embiid before, tides shift very quickly in the NBA, so I am not writing Embiid off. That said, 7'1 290 guy at at age 30 with that injury history, sometimes the end for these guys come as quickly as this, so its possible that hes ''done'', we will see.

But he dropped in the draft to number 3 spot, tho everyone knew he was most talented guy in the draft, we just never knew if he ever gets healthy. He never was completely healthy, but after 2 first seasons not playing at all, he ended up being individually dominant player, and you can hate his MVP, but it wasn't undeserved. He has unlikable media persona, but he defied odds as an underdog.

Reminds me of our countryman Ilgauskas, Ilgauskas was drafted already with foot problems, barely played first two years, but bounced back and became two time all star. Obviously, Embiid did it way better than Big Z, he was a superstar and a franchise guy, he redefined his game. We could call him lazy for never getting in shape, but overcoming these injuries and becoming completely different player, definitely took a lot of hard work.

Hes only 30 years old, still time to change the way he plays to prolong his career and be the 2nd option on a championship team.

When people talk Embiid's "legacy"... I always ask, what legacy?

He was a very good regular season player at times over parts of a number of seasons... But we've seen plenty of players like that come and go in the history of The Association.

Thats true, but in long stretches, he was one of the most dominant ever, breaking MJ and Wilt regular season records. So, altho he will not be remembered as a huge legend, but I think he will be remembered.

It's a good list, but I mostly associate him with the playoff act where he pretends to be so clumsy that he just happens to fall all over people all time in awkward angles to "accidentally" cause injuries

Those things will get lost with time. Think nobody associates Charles Barkley with spitting on a young girl, Rodman bringing a shotgun to practice to commit suicide and a lot of other crazy things that went on with former stars.

As long as Embiid´s career ends similar to how it went until now, meaning him missing a lot of games and not having more Playoff success, I expect that he´ll either be rememberred as a very talented big, whose career was heavily impacted by injuries, or he will be completely forgotten with time. Becoming one of those obscure trivia quiz questions about that guy that was MVP once. So to speak he´ll be the GOAT version of Andrew Bynum, Brad Daugherty, Ralph Sampson, Pervis Ellison, Sam Bowie and all the other bigs that had their career heavily impacted by constant injuries.

Only positive thing I can think to say about Embiid is, he's one of the greatest pure scorers in NBA history. That's about it.

Agreed?

He's playing C at one of the weakest points in history. So, yeah...the numbers should look great. It's outside in now, not inside out.

What is Embiids legacy? He was a filler MVP in between Jokic. He hasn’t done anything else

It's literally because of his flopping. He's 1st all time in FTA per 36 minutes and per 100 possessions.

He's the worst foul baiter in the history of the NBA and it's not close.

The OP is right about every word, but, just from an on-court perspective, Embiid has had a great career. Not great relative to his physical gifts, but still great. Well within the Top 75 and very likely within the Top 50 when he retires. HoF a no-brainer. He's incredibly unlikable, but he still balled out a lot - mostly in the regular season.
All human life on the earth is like grass, and all human glory is like a flower in a field. The grass dries up and its flower falls off, but the Lord’s word endures forever.

That is correct; he will be remembered, but for "What If"...

Have you seen that contract? He is stuck. Not much room for the Sixers to bring someone else in either, after giving Pandemic P $54 million / year until 2028.

Drawing fouls is a skill, and a very important skill. He benefited by playing in an era where defensive players never get benefit of the doubt, but every player had to play with what they had, and Embiid used his circumstances to have all time great numbers.

I agree, but at the same time that number is inflated by where Embiid is in his career arc right now. The latter portion of his career will push the average down, depending on how many games he gets in.

Agreed. That is why I think Jokic should have a huge asterisk next to his name when people say he is the greatest offensive player ever. He is also playing C at one of the weakest points in history.
