So whats the verdict on Scoot Henderson?

Just checking in on gauging the temperature on how everyone is feeling about Scoot’s play and what his ceiling looks like. Personally I feel like hes a good backup PG at best. Still time to develop but eye test shows he just doesnt have the talent Westbrook or Fox had, which are the players he was compared to going into draft night.
Thoughts?

He looks like a guy who will be fighting to stay in the league in a few years.

Has a -1.8 W/S... that's dead last in the 2023 draft class. He isn't doing that well. Could be a fail player. There's some time for the Blazers to turn him into something... roleplayer, starter, I don't know.

On the Killian Hayes career trajectory. That is, some continued optimism among die-hard fans but he will likely continue to underperform, and ultimately will struggle to get a NBA deal beyond his rookie contract.

Been saying this on the Blazer board, I kind of think he's cooked. Even those close to the team are admitting the pre-draft hype of being the next Derrick Rose or even an All Star caliber PG are gone - just gotta hope at this point he can be a competent starting PG. Some skills are there and the physical tools, but dude does not have the BBIQ or drive to connect all the dots he has.
If Portland ends up in next years draft where the BPA is a PG, they should take it. If Scoots a bust, so be it, don't compound the problem by skipping a potential better PG in hopes Scoot puts it together. They did that with Telfair, and skipped over both Chris Paul and Deron Williams forrrrrrrrrr Martell Webster (a need position over BPA)... Scoots tracking with the Telfair career path rn, so hoping the Blazers don't repeat the past.

I actually think it's the skills missing. He can't shoot or finish, and he doesn't pass guys open or hit the shooting pocket. He's trying to make the right plays most of the time and just can't do it. I kinda feel bad for him. But you might be right about the drive, too. He was touted as a hard worker and strong-minded kid, but he should be showing some improvement on the gaps in his game. He's not. I'm not going to turn on him personally or anything, but it's curious that the talk of his determination and hustle has quieted along with his hype.
While some players do take big leaps in their skill development, it's unwise to bet on it.
I think he's a bust, and I'm kinda sad about it.

“Haters gonna hate.”
That is all.

No way Jose. Scoot will be a 20-10 player one day, just watch. He’s very very young too.

This may sound random, but I think he should go watch tape of, like, Eric Snow and learn how to become a selfless, speedy two-way floor general who doesn't mess up because he doesn't try to do too much. Right now he's trying to be a lead guard and just doesn't have it. Dialing it wayyyyyyy back may increase his usefulness and extend his career.

I like Scoot, but I don't see it. He's young like Telfair was young -- both totally unprepared for the speed and size of the NBA game. I hope you're right and we're wrong, and he pulls himself out of this early-career hole.

He could do that now, just as long as the team is cool with him needing 19 shots a game and having 6 turnovers per game. Could be good for the tank. I say let him.

I'm torn. The Blazers are in a deep rebuild and handing him the reins is probably the surest way to both lose bushels of games this year and find out conclusively what they have in Scoot.
On the other hand, year one was really ugly and pretty well showed us he's not ready to succeed. Like I said above, I almost want to just abandon the lead guard hopes and have him work on becoming a speedy utility player. The Blazers would have to accept the sunk cost of a premium draft pick and hope he can slowly develop the skills and experience to be a positive contributor.
I'm OK with either path, really.

Trade him then. Organization is in a rebuild, yet fanbase is impatient as heck. Want to lose, but want to fire Billups because they don't believe the young players are developing enough/winning games as well (which surprisingly enough, this "horrible" team is 7-10). Blazers fanbase is bipolar with no patience.
