Who are the top 9 MVP candidates at the quarter point of the season?

Post#1 » by bisme37 » Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:02 pm

My initial poll in the stickied MVP thread is very unpopular you guys haha. I'm trying to make a new one but it's not the easiest. So here's a thread about who should I put in the poll in the other thread.

I posted this in the MVP thread and haven't gotten a response from any of the people who demand I fix my stupid poll, but here's the problem I'm looking at...

I've got 10 options to work with and one of them is "other."

So right now I'm sitting there with...

Nikola Jokic
Jayson Tatum
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Anthony Davis
Donovan Mitchell
Steph Curry
Giannis Antetokounmpo

That's 7 if my fingers are working. So who are the other 2 who get their own option? I'd prefer if you guys didn't hate me after I spend my morning on this.

I feel like Luka should be in there without even thinking about it, but he's been out and Kyrie may be the better Mavs candidate right now?

Ant Edwards felt like a lock a month ago but is he a top 9 MVP candidate?

Wemby? Is Durant still in the mix? Maybe Franz Wagner? Maybe a Knick but I don't know if it's Brunson or KAT. Lamelo Ball?? Sabonis? Harden? A Rocket? Bron? Some other guy you can't believe I haven't mentioned?

The thing is at this moment in time it looks one way, but then in a month things are different and the poll sucks. I really don't want to redo this thing every few weeks so I want a poll that will last a while.

Thx good pals.

I'm leaving toward Luka and Edwards, but I want to put Franz and Wemby in there too. Or KAT? What say us?

I don't think any of these guys are remotely in the discussion. Is this like "guess who will go on a run"? Because as of now...these guys almost just have to have others fall off AND they have to go on a run.

I feel the same way. It's just every fanbase wants their best player in the MVP poll and it's not possible and I feel like a punching bag.

Is this for MVP of the first 16-18 games or projecting for the full season. There's several guys who could be there for one but not the other.

Jokic is the only candidate right now, if we're being for real.

Tatum or SGA you can go back forth on if Jokic misses the games played criteria. Probably not worth discussing anyone further down the list.

It's basically who should I put in there that looks right both now and in a month. I'm trying to Nostradamus this thing and I'm not Nostradamus.

It's who will get it at the end, but we're ranking where they rank now.

If we're being for real i dunno what else Mitchell needs to do to be considered. I'm not saying he must win but not even discussing it? It's 16-1(...). Someone else other than the COTY Atkinson needs a recognition.

Secondly, Giannis is around the corner. It's just a matter of team record. The Bucks seem to be ok now. His stats are insane. Not a single game below 50%?
Soon, they'll be top4 in their conference. It's enough to get you on the list.

Thirdly, Wagner deserves to be there too. He's playing without Banchero. Did anyone expect him to be that good as a first option? It's the Magic!

1) Jokic
2) SGA
3) Tatum
4) Mitchell
5) Giannis, Wagner

It's very easy to change the rankings until Christmas. Team records.

funny that there's no cav

In a parity year where many players have an have equal footing there's no one from the celts or cavs. Just out of courtesy there should be two from each

and of course there's mention of LeBron but not ad. without either the lakers are a 3win team

Mitchell is averaging 24/4/4. Media, fans and even players themselves always talk about sacrificing individual accolades for the betterment of the team. This is exhibit A. He's not getting the MVP with those (relatively) pedestrian numbers because his team is the 1st seed in the East by 2 games.

Wagner deserves kudos for his season so far. But how far are we going to take "deserves to be there too". No one here can make an actual argument for him winning. It'd be absurd.

Giannis, I guess you could make a statistical case but on a team that's flopping hard like MIL he's not a serious contender. Let's be real.

People can debate the list as far down as they want to but Jokic is the only actual contender. And in the event he misses too many games, Tatum and SGA have a case to win in his place in what would be a pretty hollow accomplishment. There's no meaningful conversation to be had even further down the list besides making their team's fans feel nice about seeing their guy on a list. There's no substance behind anyone else as an MVP candidate so far.

By your standards you should just give it to jokic after 15 games on a 82 game season which is absurd.
I picked franz and Durant the suns were rolling when he was playing.

Mitchell is one of my 7 locks. This is just to pick 2 from the list of like 20 other guys who could be in there.

Franz and KD
LaMello has a bad record, Brunson, Luka, KAT and Kyrie have disappointing records, and Luka at leqst has started off very slow.
Defense wins draft lotteries!
