2024-25 NBA DPOY and All-Defense discussion
I didnt see any thread related to this award, which is the most imporant one after the MVP, so who is your 2024-25 DPOY ?
For me , at the moment is Amen Thompson. Best defender in one of the best defensive teams, he is also at the top in many defensive metrics, but even with just the eyes you can tell he is elite defender.

Unless there is an injury, Wemby has this in the bag. He might win it unanimously.

I'm not so sure about this. Spurs I think probably need to finish at least somewhere around .500 and he needs to play at least 65 games for him to win. It's not a foregone conclusion at this stage on either front.
As to my answer, I genuinely don't know at the moment. Wemby is in the conversation. As is Evan Mobley. Jalen Suggs has an argument. As does Dyson Daniels.

Dyson Daniels for sure will win it. Best perimeter defender in the entire league. Most steals. Most deflections.

Re: 2024-25 DPOY discussion
Well if we look at the best defenses in the NBA, who even stands out? Besides Wemby
Chet obviously is out.
Suggs is great but not gonna get votes over Wemby. Isaac is another DPOY caliber player but doesn't play nearly enough to win it.
Who's the best defender on the Rockets? More of a team defense than anchored by someone. Amen is an elite wing defender but not wining DPOY, this year at least.
Gobert is a fine candidate.
Mobley is gonna get some votes but how could you vote him over Wemby?

The Hawks have a negative adjusted DRTG, there is a 0% chance Dyson Daniels will win DPOY unless he somehow sets the single season SPG record AND the Hawks somehow make their way into the top 10

This guy is determined to list 15mpg Isaac who has no shot.

No you didn't. Also you'll reset the votes yet again when you do.

Narrative. We all know media won't vote him any higher than third or fourth, no matter what happens.

Re: 2024-25 DPOY discussion
Mobley/Wemby duel for the top spot (Cavs team DRTG and record is going to be a lot better than SAS)
Gobert should be higher than Daniels btw. As good as Dyson is that defense is still Swiss cheese. 141 **** points last night.

OP realizing why no one else made this thread haha. No matter what you do, everyone hates your poll.
Also Derrick White.

Victor's award to lose imo. Only way he loses it is if he plays less than 65 games

Re: 2024-25 DPOY discussion
I won't quibble about Wemby being the front-runner, but it's always tough for me to reward DPOTY to a guy on a below-average defense, and that's what the Spurs currently are (16th). Unfortunately I think Amen Thompson and Evan Mobley both suffer here because they play next to two guys who also deserve DPOTY consideration and thus will inevitably syphon away votes (Eason, Jarret Allen).
Rudy still doing his thing (3rd in D-EPM, 107.5 on-court defensive rating) despite his rebounding and block numbers regrressing is a testament to his legacy/greatness there. Orlando and OKC have too many good defenders to really single any one person out as deserving, so I really think it's a race between Wemby, Rudy, and maybe Mobley as a wildcard if the Cavs' defense catches up to his bonkers impact signals (98th percentile D-EPM, -10.1 points per-100 allowed when he's on the court).

Re: 2024-25 NBA DPOY and All-Defense discussion
Chet was starting to build an ironclad case but since he got hurt his chances are shot. It's likely going to be Wemby, if the Wolves are not that good.
