I think it's time though we induct the twins into the god-tier of athletes. We're talking the prime Derrick Roses, Russell Westbrooks, Dwight Howards, Zion Williamsons. Even as I write that out, I wonder if Howard and Williamson - arguably the most athletic PF/C's of all time - deserve to be in here. It feels like I included them just because they're impressive for their height/weight.

But as all their teammates and opponents alike say, these twins are just different. We've watched Amen for over a year, the other day he beat the entire Lakers team from basket to basket faster than we've ever seen him and it was casual. He kicked it out for a 3. I've never seen any human in any play move that fast on a basketball court in my life. Not saying it's never happened and I want you guys to actually share plays and players from your teams that are like that.

So are they the most athletic ever? Who's in your list?

Hopefully they'll both do the slam dunk contest. That would be fun.

so Imo about Westbrook athleticism. his entire game is built on athleticism. there's very little subtlety in his game.

his verticle in the combines was recorded at only 37"!! he says it's 44. but he put 100% of it in everything he did. it was his MOTOR that made him athletic.

speed doesn't encompass all of what is "athletic" in basketball. it's one of several. I like to think "acrobatic" is the measure - all the twitchy torgue-ish things players do,,, all the way down to gervin's fingers spinning the ball off the glass. also I'm impressed by improvisation

The Thompson twins are definitely a cut above the rest of the league athletically. Certainly have a case over anyone else in the league currently.

I feel as though there's this discussion every year. Where some people consider finger rolls to be athletic and by some measures someone like Kyrie or Jokic would be the most athletic players to ever play the game.

I think it does come down to semantics to a degree. For example in American English and culture, soccer players, basketball players etc. are all considered "athletes". This isn't necessarily the case in a place like the UK. In addition, in a language like German, Spanish, Slavic languages etc. separate terms are usually used for track athletes and ball sport athletes.

So it's difficult for me to look at something like Curry shooting free throws and consider that athletic, but I can understand why people would. Maybe it's also because even an older person can shoot a ball, but it would be truly surprising to play pick up basketball against a 6'3 55 year old and have him pull off dunks, chase down blocks and other skills that require raw explosive athleticism. Even if he can anticipate when to jump or understands how to sprint to the basket and score, he simply can't perform those movements.

I don't believe in the stuff to be honest cause my neighbor can do it. Euro leaguers are just as elite at that stuff. Decelerating, finger rolls, incredible handles, etc are just not as rare.

I very crudely define it to be speed x power x vertical. I think that's what most people are interested in tracking and what NBA players are uniquely good at.

In terms of raw, physical ability... yeah, it's hard to argue against them. In terms of speed, strength, agility, and explosiveness, they are LITERALLY head and shoulders above the rest of the league on most plays.

Last week - Ausar effortlessly flying through the air with his waist at Golbert's head height.

In terms of speed, explosiveness, and power, they are absolutely on the Westbrook/LeBron/young Wade tier. I saw Amen this year in person and he was the most impressive athlete I’d witnessed since LeBron 15 years ago.

There’s definitely no one in the league at 6’7’ or taller that matches them athletically. It’s a shame they can’t shoot, but maybe that will come (to some degree) in time.

It’s the fast twitch on defense that startles me the most. They recover SO FAST.

They move in a way I’ve never seen before, like hovercraft, like really old video games where the player’s movement didn’t look connected to the floor, just moving in any direction with unreal speed and suddenness.

Someone mentioned the dunk contest, but if it’s like Amen (barely seen Ausur, he’s hurt every time I see the Pistons but from the little I’ve seen the differences aren’t athletic, Amen just has a better handle and offensive feel for the game) it won’t be that entertaining because they get up there so fast there’s no time to make it look aesthetically pleasing, and they realistically have to avoid hitting their head on the rims. Maybe in non-game formats they use their hang time differently, but as of now it would be as entertaining as watching an NBA athlete on one of those kiddie rims, it just won’t impress you beyond how easily they do it.

That being said they are elite athletes. The speed, change of direction, lightning quick second jump, leaping ability, explosiveness, and the ease at which they do it is pretty special.

Pistons fans, any discernable difference between Ausar and Amen in athleticism? It would be too microscopic for the casual fan to notice, but I guess one will end up at least a millisecond faster.

LeBron didn't come out and outright say they are more athletic than he was at his athletic peak. And I really don't care who's word you take. Use your own two eyes, youtube is free.

Frankly dude I don't think you're watching the twins if your first sentence is to say what differentiates Westbrook is his motor. Westbrook has that motor on offense and fast break only. Twins have it on both sides and at a larger size. They are exactly like smaller but much faster Giannis.
