Rings are completely meaningsless to evaluate an NBA Legend's legacy
Are Championships important? Yes.
But, there are 30 teams and one trophy. Not every player is going to have the stars align to win a title. Some are doomed by being drafted or traded to teams out of title contention. And some players are fortunate to be drafted into incredible situations or even goes to an all-time great team as a free agent.
Winning is one of the greatest indicators of success. But I have an issue with using the success of a team as the sole gauge of the success of an individual. We often over emphasize individuals on a successful team, while discrediting individuals on a less successful team.
Do you agree that rings are completely meaningsless to evaluate an NBA Legend's legacy?

Rings shouldn't be meaningless in evaluation of the NBA legacy.
Rings should be less discussed in evaluation of the NBA legacy for aforementioned reasons.

It's really a Jokic thread.

LeBron's 3 championships with 3 separate teams does a lot of heavy lifting. I doubt he wants people not to care about rings.
Obviously rings aren't everything otherwise Big Shot Bob would be a top 20 player

Wilt's the only top 10 player of all-time without at least 3 and I'm not sure anyone else breaks into the top 10 without at least two. You can't win zero championships and be a top 10 player of all-time... probably not even just one championship.

Nah, Jokic' legacy is great anyway, he doesn't have the right teammates to win more, so far...

Not all rings hold the same weight. There's Kevin Durant's multiple rings. There's Dirk Nowitzki's ring. Which is the bigger number. 1 or 2?

Re: Rings are completely meaningsless to evaluate an NBA Legend's legacy
Tell you what, would much rather my star players win rings than MVPs.
I think Joker is a wonderful player who is a top 15 player easily, however he cannot possibly be considered ahead of Duncan who won 5 rings with not star studded Spurs teams either.
Granted I think the quality and standard of players and teams is considerably stronger now than what it was in Duncan's era
If anything, rings these days should be more celebrated and revered cause they are so damn difficult to win.
Only enjoyed 2 in my 32 years of being a Celtics fan.

Your obsession with Rich Paul and Nick Wright is concerning. Those dudes might want to get a restraining order at this point.

Big shot Rob is meaningless, because he is a role player. Nobody would put him above any ATG because he was a great role player in many championship teams.
Lebron is the player who has more to gain not counting rings, because people would count his cumulative stats, which are very good.
If the king was interested only in top 10 , he would want to count rings, but to be better he has not enough of them

Hence why nobody comes close to Bill Russell in the GOAT discussion.

With how often you call me that, I should probably have the mods change my name to it.
Without me, who is going to teach you about basketball and the NBA, son? You've come a long way so far.

Re: Rings are completely meaningsless to evaluate an NBA Legend's legacy
