Manchester City would be a travesty. I'm cool with Madrid leaving the Euroleague, if it means that the pool of teams gets modified.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

I am european and I don't want It. Nba should be as is. Even Toronto playing is a little bit strange, but after so many years is acceptable.

Looks like it could be like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_Africa_League, "established and is co-organized by NBA Africa and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA)" with no participation in NBA until supersonic jets

I don't think international expansion of the NBA league will ever happen. Vancouver or some Canadian city near US, sure. Europe, no way

What they will try to do is create a euro NBA affiliation with euro teams playing each other as a sub league

I prefer that things stay as they are

PSG and Man City don’t have basketball teams. Paris Basketball is a fairly recently established team unrelated to PSG in the euro league.
Manchester’s only pro team plays in an arena that has a capacity of 2000…

Good luck getting Man City fans to a basketball arena.

Sounds like the idea is to have the Euro League (maybe with NBA-like conferences), but with even more teams that have a big name because of football, when you don't know whether the fans of those teams would even watch basketball.

Fake news

Lol this is not fake news, this whole thing been most of was talked about during Paris trip. We know PSG and City doesn't have basketball teams, duh, the whole idea is to take richest sport franchises in the world and make them participators, they would form basketball teams...

As Euro basketball fan and a bit of a NBA hater, I hate this, but I imagine this project wouldn't be huge success. Silver thinks he will just tap in, make some non basketball cities and franchises into participators, and Europeans will instantly care? Most Euros cant watch regular basketball game cause it has stoppage time, they aren't tuning to nba product, where timeouts are 3 times longer. This will not be nba, at least with nba, top talent might sway you into watching, this would just be watered down Euroleague, but with insuferable NBA business model and teams with no basketball fans. I cant see how thats appealing to anybody.

so that means that guys from California would have to fly out to Germany to play games? Isn't that like 16 hours on a plane?

The product is massively boring. I find it hard to believe there is a groundswell for expansion right now.

It would be an Euro-only league, run by the NBA, not European teams playing in the NBA. At least for now. God knows what they'll come up with in the future.

As someone who follows Spanish basketball, I hate the idea of taking Real Madrid out of the league. I am a Barcelona fan, but I still hate it.

If they're talking about a Europe-only league, Europe doesn't need an NBA Jr. It's already got institutions and history.

And if they're talking about integrating those 4 teams into the regular NBA, the travel scenarios are a nightmare. I fly back and forth from Europe to the states several times a year, and it really starts to take a toll. There are even a lot of studies indicating that being in an airplane for extended periods can have deleterious health effects and I suspect that the more it's studied, they more they're going to find.

Hope they just leave this one alone.

Smart. The globalization of the game has accelerated so much in the last decade and it should only continue. The best talent is already coming from Europe. Makes a lot of sense to capitalize and secure the top European markets for the NBA. Some American players won't be thrilled with having to live overseas but the European NBA players will surely like being closer to home.

First thing that comes to mind is revenue for does big euro teams.
Real Madrid as football club is rich but im pretty sure our basketball team was losing money few seasons ago.
Like few weeks ago i was looking at best paid players in europe and i was kinda shocked.Mirotic got that big as.s contract that was then bought out or something.I was thinking numbers still should be big but then i saw that biggest numbers are around 4 mill and i was kinda shocked
