About 10 years ago, he left his wallet on a counter at the OKC airport. I grabbed it and returned it to him. Felt a little thin. He needs to keep working on that shot.

Man it's sad to see how much these guys let themselves go.

It's worth remembering what happens when your body has grown accustomed to the way professional athletes have to live. Their caloric intake is one thing, but their metabolism changes over time. Life catches up with all of us eventually, man; judgement isn't necessarily a good look. It's quite possible that they're still working out, but it becomes progressively harder to hang onto muscle mass, and they aren't doing the cardio they used to as active players, which adds up over time even if they've ratched down their caloric intake.

Food for thought.

Are you kidding? 3 of those guys are each pushing or past 60 and Baron Davis at 45 looks about as chubby as he always was?

Ha, I was just thinking, “how are these rich, world class athletes fatter than me?!?”

Mitch is 59. Hardaway is 58. Mullin is 61.

They all look younger than they are.

We don't judge people enough or harsh enough. Richmond is just down right unhealthy fat here. And the rest of this is mostly just mumbo jumbo.

What part of being 60 makes someone obese? Baron isn't really the issue here either. Richmond and Hardaway however...get in shape boys. You're literally killing yourselves.

Is that our new standard? These are rich guys who have access to trainers, nutritionists, doctors...and have all the free time in the world.

They are fat. There's no 2 ways around it. I play a ton of tennis with older guys and moving is key as you get older. Let's not sugar coat what we're witnessing here...they let themselves go.

Realistically, most of those guys are just enjoying life a lot and getting their fill of food and drink. It actually wouldn't be that hard for them to be in better shape, but you'd have to actually want to be.

I have former pro athlete friends, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball and hockey, and it's really not that difficult to stay in shape, but that is if you see it as a priority. If not, of course you will gain weight. You need something like approx. 200 calories less per day in your diet every decade after your 20's. You either have to keep exercising more to make it up, or you have to cut down on some calories somewhere.

Thing is that you would have to actually care enough about it.

No, it isn't. It's biology. Yeah, it's possible that they could be doing a little better, but your appreciation for how aging and sport affect the body could use some work.

If your body is accustomed to a 4500 calorie-a-day diet, it isn't easy to change that. But as you move into a life that isn't cardio all day most days of the weak, that adds weight. And even if you're working out a reasonable amount (but less than you were as a professional athlete), muscle converts to fat as we age.

So even if they're making reasonable efforts, it's quite possible that this could happen anyway. Beyond that, you don't know things like, are they diabetic? Do they have kidney problems? Thyroid issues? Things which aren't entirely uncommon as a result of their situation and age. But even in the absence of that, you're being a bit ignorant and judgmental, tbh, particularly in the absence of any information about their lifestyles or habits.

I just watched a video where Jimmy Butler s**t himself. Can't be worse than that.

So post some selfies so we can start judging you harsh enough then

I think this is fair, and I passed some judgment. I wouldn’t levy these shots at your average 60 y/o.

Guess it’s more about guys who should theoretically have way more resources than just about anyone else still looking like, everyone else.

To any actual human being in person, I’m showing empathy. On a random message board those dudes are never going to read? Meh.

Was at the gym last night talking to a retired CFO. 6'2 and about 170 pounds...ripped. Runs most days, does yoga, and lifts some weights in the gym. Absolutely zero excuses for rich retired people to let themselves go. Now if they're happy with being fat and taking years off their lives. Cool. But it's sad to see former athletes let themselves go. It blows my mind people find that controversial.
