Somebody check on Adam Silver - Draymond says NBA on-court product has become 'very boring'/praises LeBron for being dif

When asked if he though the NBA game was boring, Green was blunt. "Absolutely," he said, via the Associated Press.
Green spoke about a recent Warriors game against the Los Angeles Lakers, saying that it was "refreshing" to go up against a strategic player like LeBron James. Golden State has played the Lakers twice in the past month, losing both games.
"Every possession is some type of chess move," Green said Saturday of playing against James. "You don't get that today in the NBA, often. ... You don't just get that on a regular basis. It's just who can run faster, who can hit more threes, it’s no substance. I think it's very boring."
Ironically, one could argue that Green's teammate Stephen Curry played a hand in the three-pointer's rising popularity in the NBA. But Green says that he wants to see more of the kind of creativity that James brings to the game.
“You want to be one of the teams that aren’t playing an accidental game,” Green said. “That’s the challenge.”

NBA is barely a sport anymore. A large percentage of the passionate fans left are gamblers who get the rush from betting. For the common sport fan however, gameplay has never been worse. Say what you want about the 2000s but I’ll take the boring chess match over this anyday

Maybe it’s not just old guys yelling at clouds and there is actually something to what many have been saying for years now.
To be clear, not saying you can’t like today’s NBA or even prefer it.
Just saying there has been a clear change in how the sport is played. It looks drastically different than it did 15+ years ago.
Older players have been saying it, you’ve had many die hard life long fans (like myself) who went from watching multiple games per night, to not watching any NBA at all.
Again not saying you can’t like current NBA, but there is no denying the style/product of the game has changed drastically.

I guess we care about Draymond's opinion now that he's said something some of you agree with?

I was thinking about this, and how it doesn't make logical sense that the TV deals get bigger and bigger while the ratings dwindle, and then it hit me finally, the NBA (and other sports probably) are utilizing a similar model that microtransaction based video games do. That is, they are focusing their strategy on the whales, and ignoring the average fan.
How does this work? Well in games, you market to people who will spend excessive amounts of money, and keep giving them carrots to chase. You lose your core audience, but the whales spend far more than the core audience ever did originally.
For the NBA, you get people who will pay for streaming. For the average fan, games used to be affordable to attend, and there was basketball on basic television. Now you have to purchase a specific streaming service that carries the NBA or league pass itself if you want the games, and to actually buy tickets the price is exorbitant. So instead of making it more accessible, they're just going out of their way to target the whales who are subsidizing the current product. This includes gamblers, who are obviously putting huge money into the hobby.
The problem is, in the long term this isn't a winning strategy. Eventually the whales will dry up, and you won't have the sort of base of support necessary to sustain. That said, sports leagues are new to all this, so we'll see how long this can last. Its pretty sad to see though, as someone who used to game a lot in my younger days, when games go that route its usually a sign of their impending death. And if that happens to something massive like professional sports, the fallout will be massive.

Probably not the first to say it but David Stern was a better commish than Adam Silver. Stern chose the wrong successor.

Weird how Draymond wasn't complaining when he was feeding a team of spam 3 point shooters on the way to multiple titles. That must have been very tough for him to live with.

This is true. Its sort of like how sabermetrics changed baseball, guys fishing for walks and home runs and the in between game died there as well. But its more noticeable in the NBA, where action is happening on every single play.
Yes, its more efficient to strictly play for 3's, free throws and layups/dunks. But it feels limiting, like 2/3 of the court is just space you're navigating and not being used for strategic play.
It's also an easy sell to the players, who already hate the regular season, because its far less effort to move the ball around for a 3 than it is to try to create efficient two point looks that aren't layups/dunks.

I only actively watch 5 teams. Still I can’t get away from the pool of the other 20 teams they have to play that I despise watching

If I hear one more announcer mention how good Will Hardy is or how Billups “has these guys playing hard” I’m gonna flip.

Silver has brought gambling into the Sport. Corruption on max. Zebras feeling themselves with no regard for human life.
Its time to make the NBA Great Again. This guy needs to go.

First part of fixing a problem is admitting there is a problem, I don’t think the voices ever got this loud about the low quality of games even during the worst of 90s/early 00s Rileyball slugfests. I don’t understand why they can’t just change the rules back, I think that’s what most people want.

Draymond is one of the absolute smartest on court players of his generation. He’s one of the terribly scant few you should/ can listen to.
