I think we stumbled on an actual fix for the All star game

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Mon Feb 17, 2025 6:22 am

The West and East conference all stars (AS) play against a team of non-AS players.

Only way to get these AS playing hard is to threaten their ego with a loss to a team of non-AS players.

The non-AS players are picked based on the players with the most fan votes that didn't get selected as AS. You know they have something to prove and fans get to see the players they voted for.

I think the format of 2 semis and a final worked, I just want to see each of the games go for a little longer and AS vs non-AS be in both semis. I want to see an AS team get smoked for being lazy.

Games should be played to 50 each round, one ten-minute “halftime” (commercial) break per game.
Each team gets one one-minute timeout per half, no other stoppages.

Example of this year:

East semis
East AS: Brunson, Mitchell, Tatum, Mobley (inj Giannis), KAT -- Garland, Lillard, Cade, Brown, Siakam -- Trae, Herro
East Non-AS: LaMelo, Maxey, Mikal, Paolo, Embiid -- Poole, White, Hart, Butler, Allen -- OG, Bam

West semis
West AS: SGA, Curry, LeBron, Durant, Jokic -- Harden, Edwards, Jalen, Wemby, Sengun (inj Davis) -- Kyire, JJJ
West Non-AS: Ja, Doncic, Booker, Green, Sabonis -- Fox, Powell, Wiggins, Zion, Chet -- Reaves, Kuminga

It's still east vs west in the finals.

There’s no way to fix it. It’s just time to bury the tradition for good. Give everyone a week off and move on.

There is no fix. Just name the All Stars, give everyone Friday through Monday off, and start the games back up on Tuesday.

Forget about what we saw on TV, what about the people that actually paid tickets to watch this crap? NBA just scamming hard working families at this point.

An addition:

All star MVP will become an actual All Star if they are on a non-AS team

The fix is to get rid of it. The sponsors, execs and hanger ons can have a circle jerk some other time. Put the 10 days or whatever into the schedule and reduce B2B games.

Why even bother trying to pull off an event like this one week after the pinnacle competition in sports? Just go to Cancun already.

I think it would be cool if fans voted for a team and then coaches voted from the remaining pool of players.

Fan selections vs coach's selections.

Unless you stumbled upon a well-tuned DeLorean with its destination set for the 2003 allstar game, I don't think you found a fix. The whole allstar weekend looks worse every year.

Why do we even need an All-Star game? Everyone seems so pressed to fix something that in my opinion is un-fixable. This whole weekend is meaningless and boring entertainment unrelated to the real sport of basketball. People can watch LeBron and Curry play almost everyday, what is even the point of these gimmicky events?

I'd up the stakes further. The two winning teams of the semis are the official East and West all-star squads. The odds are stacked in your favor if you make the 'real all-star' team, but you can still squander the chance to be given the accolade if the underdogs pull the upset.
