Lol, SGA did not want to give his agent 10% of that incoming $360M supermax deal.

Edit: I was wrong, the agent fee is actually 4% in NBA

These dudes are taking 10%?

If that’s the case, every player in the league needs to fire their agent.

Well agents have access to GMs on other teams, something a player can't have.

For a surefire max deal guy it doesn't make sense to have an agent unless it's for getting marketing deals.

Nope, my fault. They are taking 4% per the rules is NBA.

The NBA Players Association limits agent commissions to 4% of a player’s salary. While that might sound small, the numbers become significant when you consider the scale of today’s NBA contracts. For instance, an agent negotiating a $100 million contract will earn $4 million just from that one deal.

Haynes said he would still be represented by Simon G from Isla Management for all off court stuff

Shai’s number is predetermined. Other players get at least some benefit.

ya if youre an auto max/supermax guy, giving 4% to someone to do nothing there is pretty ridiculous. Just hire a couple lawyers to read the contract for a fraction of a fraction of that 4%

Still way too much. A player like Shai would get a max offer from all 30 teams without so much as an interview. I’m not paying a lawyer ~15 million to proofread my contract lol

4% may be too much but I do think your average ball player having an agent is a good idea.

I would just negotiate them down. 4% up to $100M then it goes down a lot.

Why do players hire agents? Think about it this way: if my agent gets paid a portion of what I earn, he is heavily incentivized to find ways for me to make more money.

Smart business man. Sign the contract and THEN hire an agent for promotional stuff

Sure. But if youre a max guy, there's not much your agent can do. And you can get an agent to for everything besides your NBA contract

What’s his next contract going to be? Roughly $250M? 4% of that is $10M. I bet he’ll get an agent again after signing for a few years just to arrange other sponsorships. But I would think he could just get an agent now with that stipulation.

They are lots of things other than salary that can be negotiated in contracts and it's probably best for a player not to do that on his own. But for someone who will be handed a max they should get an agent to accept a flat fee for their role that is much less than 4%.

This is like hiring a realtor who takes 3% automatically and does nothing. SGA is a smart man
