Max Christie: how good is he?

I've barely watched him play, so I ask: how good is he and what's his potential going forward?

In 6 games with the Mavs his FG% is .486 with a .455 3pt% (5.5 attempts per game). He's averaging 17.3 points, 3.5 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals. I know it's only 6 games, which is also why I ask the question.

I think it's fair to say that as much as everyone in Mavs universe hates the Luka trade, Max has been the one shining star in the darkness of this trade fallout. He's been looking great, defensively, offensively and character wise.

He’s a nice player. Solid 3& D guy and possibly a little more. He’s exactly the type of player that has been getting overpaid though of late, so it’s nice they have him on a great contract for I think a few more years at least so they can make informed decision when the time comes. Think he signed like a 4 year deal last year iirc. So probably a couple seasons more to evaluate what they have. Was definitely the best piece of that horrible trade. I mean AD is a known quantity and the pick likely sucks, but he had upside.

He has two more years after this one at 7 & 8 million. Then there's a player option for 8 million (he'll probably opt out).

He just turned 22 years old.

Ham definitely didn't rate him, and I think JJ would have liked to play him more but as you say, the Lakers had similar types ahead of him in the pecking order.

Got to give Lakers fans (least on this forum) credit for being classy and magnanimous and wishing Max all the best in Dallas. It's obvious most of them rated him highly.

He did do a lot in LA. He was highly valued and not a throw in. To start the season he went out playing like he is now accept his shot wasn't falling. He was held down a bit and then worked his way back with more sensible scoring and has been building ever since then.

Max has a nice shot and he can get his shot in many ways. He's potential to be an elite 3+D player that can get you 30 every now and then.

A lot of it is mental too. You see it with team USA pretty much every year. Great players start bricking the ball off the side of the backboard or even good shooters suddenly realize they are better off setting screens.

Sticking with the example of the Lakers, some guys, like Reaves, Rui or D-Lo, are just completely unfazed. They continue to take the shots they believe they should take. But then there are others where just that small bit of self-doubt or questioning whether they should take a shot etc. can hold them back.

We've seen that very often with LBJ's teammates, but even someone like Steph who seems very easier to play with has guys who simply can't do it.

And that's no knock on Steph, lebron or other NBA legends, it's just the reality of playing with those kinds of guys.

Our best perimeter defender by a mile when he was with us. Reliable shooter and clutch on the line when the game matters. Every contending team loves having a player like Christie. He's an all around winning type of player. Never gives an inch on defense but fights his ass off. Watch him being switched onto centers. He's an absolute hound.

Imo was always more than a role player to me. I at first would be happy to see him be elite in his role as a 3&D winger. But throughout this season with the lakers he's shown how quick he is to adapt and evolve his game.

Mavs got an absolute stud and i think it's the perfect team for him,



I've already stated that if Christie becomes decent to good as an all around offensive player he's already miles ahead of reaves.

While reaves is obviously the much better offensive player being able to create for himself and others at a great ratio his defense is sorely lacking.

If Maximus fixes up his handles and adds on a bit o muscle to finish through contact and overall adds bits to his game on that end the comparisons wont even be close.

He's 22 and has the mentality and discipline to become better every season.

He's already shown stuff in Dallas he wasn't able to show with the Lakers. He is handling the ball a lot more and we're seeing his mid range game quite a bit.

He was starting to.

Yes, he was inserted in the starting lineup and looked good. I believe when he came into the league, he was known as non shooter, he spent some time in G league and individually working on his long range shooting. When his shot arrived, he became NBA player.

Me too lol. I posted this in another thread the other day...

I'm tripping out about Max Christie lol. When I first saw him last season I wondered if he was Doug Christie's son and almost looked it up but thought, "I don't need to look it up, he looks just like Doug Christie's son."

Then yesterday I saw a thing about how his new teammate Klay Thompson also thought he was Doug's son, but he isn't and there's actually no relation at all.

So now I'm wondering how there's a dude named Max Christie who looks a lot like Doug Christie and is the right age and an NBA player, but is somehow not Doug Christie's son lol.

I think at his peak he may have Mikal Bridges-like impact. But a future star I think he is not.
