Now it's official : LBJ is the ATG that has played with the best collection of teammates ever

Post#1 » by Luke » Mon Feb 24, 2025 6:27 pm

No one has ever had so great of teammates in his career : Magic had Kareem and Kareem had Magic ; MJ had Pippen ; Kobe had Shaq and Shaq had Kobe ; Duncan had Robinson ; Curry had KD and viceversa for a couple of years.... but the collection of superstars and all time greats now with with Doncic added, has propelled Lebron to a whole new level. No one will likely ever match the total greatness of teammates Lebron has played with.

Lebron can still be very effective if he is able to sacrifice his precious stats and accolades for the good of the team : not winning in the next few years with Luka would be something that would lower his legacy...
Even this year , the way the game is played today , the hole in the middle might not be a great problem: the Lakers could be great this year, and unbelievable the next few years, if they are able to add the right players...

A 40 year old nba player having this high of a standard already cements his legacy.

The pressure to win is on Luka imo. LeBron already shown he knows how to win.

Nothing a 40 year old does or doesn’t do on a basketball court can lower their legacy.

I find myself thinking a conversation of who played with the most MVP teammates is warranted.

So for example, Russell Westbrook played with Durant, Harden, LeBron & Jokic. I'd have to go through history to see if anyone matches him, but I think Westbrook is probably at least tied for the top of that list presuming you categorize him as an all-time great.

If we consider other current MVP players we get:

Durant - Westbrook, Harden & Steph
Harden - Durant, Westbrook & Embiid
LeBron - Westbrook
Curry - Durant
Embiid - Harden
Giannis - none
Jokic - none

That is the kind of hand selected stats that will convince everyone ...

I agree with the OP. Not only did LeBron thoughout his entire career stacked the deck in his favor again and again, throwing aging team mates under the bus routinely...he did so while claiming to be the best player this league has seen, ever. Like, EVER.

It would be okay to be this kind of villain as, lets say, Kevin Durant. He never claimed to be that guy. But its really hard to wrap your head around the fact that people try to convince us that the guy who got himself the most help in the history of the league, only converted it into 3.5 championships - less than Kobe, Tim Duncan, is somehow the greatest player of all time. Mind boggling.

Big fan of 40yo Bron. Keep goin uncle.

Still think he and Durant broke free agency and NBA. Colluding to join a RIVAL team (literally players/teams they lost playoff series to) with stacked assets or a 73-win record… it’s the opposite of competitiveness. Complete crap! Otoh I can’t exactly blame a guy who’s best at his craft for picking his work location of choice.

Besides that, I see no reason why one would argue Lebron’s worse or better than Jordan. The only real difference is Michael was meaner, and as such kinda more ruthless in the clutch.

If you are looking for reasons to reduce his legacy when the guy is 40 years old, I think you should just give up and accept his greatness. It is the healthier route, I can asure you.

To be fair, several of Lebron's team mates were All-NBA/top players before they joined up with him but either due to injury or adjusting to playing in a Big Three had to give up accolades for it. Kevin Love for example was All-NBA 2nd team the year before he joined Lebron and then had to temper his game to fit into the Cavs and never made another All NBA team despite being one of the best power forwards in the game. Kyrie in 2016 and AD in 2021 should have both been ALL NBA had they not missed so many games due to injury as they were dominating players when healthy.

That said, yeah those guys from the 60'/70's were fielding entire starting line ups of All NBA/HOF players so I can't say Lebron's had the most help in NBA history lol. But if it's just between him and Jordan for example, it's not even close.

BREAKING: Player with unprecedented longevity also played with lots of different teammates.
Only 7 Players in NBA history have 21,000 points, 5,750 assists and 5,750 rebounds. LeBron has double those numbers.

You think if Jokic plays until 40 he will play with a comparable number of all NBA superstars in their prime?

Nice try though, i respect the attempt.

This is one of the main evidences that precludes LeBron from being the true GOAT. He’s had far more help than anyone else yet hasn’t won the most despite playing way way longer, and has never really had a dominant all-time team season despite not playing that great of competition besides the Warriors.

No other top 10 player can say they played with 3 separate in-prime top 3-4 players in the league (prime Wade, Davis and now Luka).

LeBron's teammates have combined for over 100+ Allstar appearances in their careers.

I said nothing to indicate that this list is the definitive answer to the topic at hand, and was hoping that it was 100% obvious to everyone that I just thought it was a reasonable thing to have handy.

Ooh, that's a good metric to consider. I'd like to see what that looks like for all the candidates.

Got to love how a players legacy is apparently still capable of taking hits at 40 years old, you're essentially proclaiming he's the GOAT with those unprecedented standards lol
