Is LeBron a good offball player?

Post#1 » by EmpireFalls » Fri Feb 28, 2025 4:53 am

It’s a pretty longstanding debate. Two sides - one that thinks he needs the ball in his hands to be effective and is super ball-dominant and lazy off ball, the other saying that part of his game is good.

So far with Luka, I’ve seen that part of his game really shine - absolutely demolishing teams with cuts, leakouts in transition, and spot up 3s. Had a highlight reel alley-oop in every single game.

Is he good offball or not?

Yes he is and showed it with Wade and Kyrie. But neither of them were elite playmakers so he always ended up being that guy more often than not.

Ofcourse he is. He was just even better with the ball in his hands.

He's incredible off ball but just hasn't wanted to do it much.

If he commits to letting Luka be the primary ball handler the Lakers will be a tough out in the playoffs.

Lebron good or great at literally everything. Lebron has done more than anyone in history so yeah...

the better question is Luka going to be good off the ball. cause they both gonna have the ball at some point...

he's smart. if you're smart you can adjust to anything

he's old and he knows who's team it is now

i don't think 30yr old lebron would have taken this. he would have demanded his 28ppg like he did at miami and cavs

LeBron is good at literally everything besides free throws and (consistent) jumpshooting. Well, in his prime at least, he's definitely not the defender he used to be.

He seems legitimately amazing off the ball

2012 Lebron who primarily played off ball was a god damn menace.

The Lebron we have seen since Luka came into town is just an order more savy version of 2012 Lebron. Absolute MENACE.

Problem is that his playmaking never let him be off ball because the team is usually better with him on ball.

I think he'll surprise people with how good of a match he is with Luka.

In transition, yeah. In the halfcourt, no.

He's a smart cutter, who accentuates it with his athleticism.

He is not a good floor spacer or off-ball mover when it comes to actions away from the basket even though his shooting has improved over his career.

At this point in his career he is probably the best his ever been off ball: smart cutter, great shot selection and hitting at the highest % in his career, can attack 1-5, knows perfectly when to make the extra pass.

I agree. Earlier in his career, he was trying to post up and running the floor only as off ball strategy.. Couldn't shoot. Lakers LeBron has become the best shooter he's ever been recently, he can play great as a screener that can catch and make literally any decision off of a player like Reeves or Luka. Decisions like continue to be an elite driver of the paint, pop out and shoot or attack the close out, pass... Whatever.

Yes, he's become a great off ball player. But still requires shooting around him
