Before Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, discussions were had to send him to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Dallas Mavericks and Timberwolves had informal trade talks that centered around a swap of Doncic for Wolves star Anthony Edwards.

Dallas reportedly reached out to see if Minnesota would be willing to trade Edwards. While the Timberwolves told Nico Harrison that Edwards was off limits, the team was reportedly stunned to find out Doncic was available.

The Mavericks ultimately traded Doncic to the Lakers for a package centered around Anthony Davis.

Do you think this is real or is Nico just putting out stories so he can say "See, we DID offer Luka around before we took the Lakers deal"?

Wolves GM Tim Connolly has an opt-out this summer which he might use. Think the new ownership would rather wait and see what he decides before firing him mid-season and have a disjointed front office heading into the draft and free agency.

What's done is done, Mavs FO needs to stand on that and keep is pushing.

What makes you think Luka would stay in Minny?

Lies. Nico had his eye on AD the whole time and has made it no secret how much he wanted him. He literally said himself that how he conducts trades is making it clear who his target is first and starting from there. If he really wanted to just trade Luka for the best package, they would have gotten much more from the Lakers. The deal only ended up being what it was because Nico stupidly believed that swapping AD for Luka is almost equal in value and was given Christie and a Pick as filler to fill in.

No, it was a speculation, no reputable source gave who the team was.

Exactly. Nico is just trying another angle to cover up his own mess. This would leak out because Wolves would want to talk to Doncic's agent if he would even resign. Why risking trading ANT and not even have a chance to talk to Doncic?

If this story is true, Nico is even a bigger idiot we thought he already is. But i don't believe it is.

I can kinda see it, the Wolves would have to duck under the 2nd apron to make it happen correct?

That would make more sense to me why they were supposedly asking around to dump money than the rumored KD move.

Conspiracy theory but yeah, they seeked out AntManand Greek Freak.

They knew SGA and Wemby were unattainable, so they went after AD.

Guys the NBA wanted Luka on the Lakers. This was a business move stop trying to convince yourself that Nico made this trade on his terms. He's just the scapegoat for the NBA.

Look at how the league has changed the schedule now that Luka is a Lakers. They putting them on Nat'l tv damn near every game. This was a marketing move for the future. Someone has to be the face and Luka had to be that guy and specifically had to be the Lakers.

No GM would put a top 3 player just entering his prime on the trade block. Notice I said trade block. Nobody knew Luka was even available. Red flags that this was behind the scenes and owners had to agree to it for the betterment of the league. This was a money move folks!

Orlando had no choice in the matter, there was no RFA back then to protect teams from their star walking after their rookie deal and no competitive advantage to re-signing with your original team for more money or longer term. The playing field was level in free agency for all teams.

As for the Luka for Ant trade, I mean, this really tells me one thing. The Mavs ownership did not want to pay Luka the supermax under any circumstance. Ant is locked up for 250 million, so that would have been a 100 million in savings for the Adelson's while still having a young star on the team.

Looks like the Adelsons gave Nico the MO, no supermax allowed, just do whatever you need to do.
