DYK: Malik Beasley…

Post#1 » by tmorgan » Mon Mar 3, 2025 7:39 am

…now leads the NBA in made threes this year? Yep, with 244. Shooting 42.7%, too.

Another crazy stat: among the top 22 players in made threes, not a single one shoots under 80% from the line…

…except Beasley, of course, who is shooting only 66.3% from the line (67/101).

Threesley is a crazy player, man. I honestly think he prefers contested threes to open threes. He often doesn’t set his feet, his natural shot is a slight fade, and he has zero conscience.

Which brings up another question for the GB: What’s this guy getting paid next year? He’s on a crazy bargain prove it deal with Detroit (1/6), but surely will be in greater demand after this. The Pistons definitely want to keep him, and he seems to enjoy being a first or second option whenever he’s in the game, but I imagine he still wants to get PAID. Whaddaya think his next deal looks like?

4/80 would be the floor, probably 4/100

Full MLE is ~66/4, I think someone will throw it at him, he has no bird rights and isn't really a cap space type of player, he's not getting more than this.

And he's "only" 28 - I thought he's been so much longer in the league.

About the money - I wonder whether he is prioritising winning at this stage. And anyway, it would be great to see him staying with Pistons - I hate to see next to zero continuation with some of those rosters over the years.

Shooting 66% on his FTs makes me think this could be an outlier season. Probably a 40% 3PT shooter regardless, but does he have value beyond that? Wouldn't be the first time a team severely overpaid for a one-dimensional shooter. Full MLE sounds reasonable.

But yeah, dude is balling this year, props to him.

Just wait until the games really matter. Laker and Buck fans know the drill.

Beasley is a great three point shooter but he's not very good at anything else, really. The three point efficiency comes and goes. Paying him would feel like the Heat paying Duncan Robinson to me.

He's an elite three point shooter who puts in effort and isn't a turnstyle on defense, keeps the ball moving, and can get to the rim as needed.

Feels like the type of dude that someone will seriously regret overpaying...

Anyone who gives this guy a big deal is going to regret it. Yeah he's having a good season but he's played on better team and was pretty subpar for them.

Could just be that this team is a great fit for his skillset, on top of it being a contract year.

Personally, I'd value him similarly to Sam Hauser. More ball handling/playmaking chops, but only 6'4" vs. 6'8" makes a difference on defense in terms of what matchups he can be passable in vs. not. Hauser signed for 4 years, $45M. But a little different because that 4 year term starts with his age 28 season vs. age 29 for Beasley's deal this offseason and, more importantly, Hauser signed with a minimum salary year left before reaching free agency so there was probably some discount baked into the extension number.

He's having a great year, but really, the guy has been filling it up for years now. He's been top 15 in made 3's per game 4 of the last 5 years and is a career 39% shooter from deep. Anyway, the pistons have him in the perfect role for him and he's thriving. As a starter he's kinda borderline, but as a bench flame thrower, he's great.

He is a perfect player next to Cade. He is a direct benefitor of his drive and kicks and all attention Cade gets. Something like 4 year with 3rd team options on full or slightly above mid level would make sense.

Agree his ceiling is the MLE. He's a shooter. And a good one. But guys who just offer that don't often get much more than that. And shouldn't.

Reminds me of Bruce Bowen. Awesome corner 3 point shooter. Terrible free throw shooter. never understood it.

If that dude played even average defense, Beasley would be getting PAID!
