Obviously if there are more "chances" in total for a liberal interpretation of an assist, the more questionable hits will be generated, all else being equal.

Is the ratio of questionable assists (to non-questionable) different?

Interpretation of assists has been an issue for a long time. Larry Bird talked about it in his book "Drive" back in 1989 (?), specifically how they generally interpreted assists much more loosely on the West Coast.

Yeah, those are both pretty egregious. Doesn't change the fact that he's an elite playmaker and passer.

You can say the same with Stocktons assists LeBron’s assists etc. the methodology is not perfect. Shouldn’t take away from anyone’s greatness. It happens and doesn’t matter what era.

NBA assists would have been way better had it always just been tracked like hockey. Last person to touch the ball prior to the basket being scored gets the assist.

Eliminates all judgment calls. Assist league wide would be higher but the elite would still rise to the top.

Assists have always been like this for everyone lol.

Of his 22 last night I would say only 4 were similar to the tweet in OP. The other 18 are for dunks/layups or spot up shooters.

Yes, i posted the link to all 22 from last night, those were the 4 i called into question, there was also a 5th iffy one but overall, 17 assists is still dang impressive.

Don’t home teams track assists? This stuff has been going on forever.

None of those passes were actual assist.

He's averaging 10.4 apg on the road and 10.7 apg at home.

I'd guess they are all "real" and every player has these type of assists. Unless you think every score keeper across the league is in cahoots to pad Jokic's assists totals.

They were counted as assist in the first game against the Pacers.

hilariously, the first assist is ANOTHER one just like the one OP linked where Jokic makes a pass to Porter, Porter then dribbles the ball a few times before creating his OWN shot. So that's 2 now.

Edit - just found one more. Jokic gets the DReb, makes a long pass to Gordon up the court. Gordon then dribbles the ball into the other half of the court and takes a pull-up jumper which should NOT be a Jokic assist.

Edit again - HOLY HELL, there are some REALLY BAD score keeping assists here. How the hell is passing the ball to WB who then proceeds to dribble in and spin Tyus Jones for his OWN shot a Jokic assist? What the hell? Why don't they just count every single play that comes off a DREB jesus CHRIST

They should fire the score keeper, 1.7M saw the tweet and will get the wrong idea, I'm sure big ol' Perk will bring it up.
There are 4-5 assists there that are top 5 on most players career highlights.
