Is it time to replace refs with AI?

Post#1 » by LakersSoul » Tue Mar 11, 2025 11:22 pm

With so many missed calls and refs losing objectivity with “T”s and ejections, while technology advancing at hyper-speed, Is it time to replace refs with AI?

Remove 75% of refs and replace them with AI will:

1. speed the game up
2. Eliminate cheaters
3. Reduce complaints
4. Keep calls consistent
5. Save money in long term

What do you guys think?

They’ll never replace the refs because it’ll make it a lot more difficult to rig the games and treat some players differently like luka, jokic,SGA, embiid, etc

The game would be unwatchable with AI refs. There are so many fouls that aren't called that would be called by AI.

That could also be programmed, though I see your concern.

Just watch as flops get called exponentially more frequent, either leading to all flops being called, or no fouls being called at all resulting in physical mugging all game

Is there an option to say "no" without saying "refs are good"? Cause that's my answer.

Train the refs better. Pay them more. Install sensors on the court to help them make faster, better decisions. Whatever. But hell no to AI refs.

Sensors like tennis would be good for how much money the league makes; they lack the technology compared to other sports.

I don't think Iverson could ref all the games himself, and I don't know if he'd even be good at it. Need more info.

Not a good idea. AI can probably take over a lot of jobs and before you know it, will take all our jobs. It’s a very slippery slope

No. There would be at least twice as many foul calls and fans would the label the AI refs “soft”

That would be a good start. People just screw stuff up. I look forward to when the players and fans are replaced by AI as well.

So why should refs be the exception? If we're gonna lose our jobs I want the refs to lose theirs too

I'm all for it. Imagine Luka not complaining anymore and instead focusing on getting back on defense. SGA will get exposed for excessive flopping, and no more wasting time with coaches' challenge. Just load the sidelines with bouncers to handle fights and scuffles. Refs will be a bygone era of complaining and corruption. A relic.

Teams will adjust and learn as always where and how calls are made.
