This thread is basically asking do you think current Shai Gilegous-Alexander is on par with Miami LeBron James.

KD certainly rose to higher levels sooner than SGA. but it seems like SGA just keeps on getting better year after year. and this MVP years vs KD's MVP compares very favorably to SGA. it's clearly a more dominant, all time higher level MVP year than KD's. we'll just have to wait and see if OKC can convert in the playoffs.

Considering a 36 year old post achilles KD is averaging 27/6/4 on great splits i wonder just how **** dominant he would in this rendition of the NBA at Shai's age.

He’s played awesome. And he is a great player on defense. But if he wins MVP over Jokic this year it would be ridiculous. And I think you maybe don’t remember how awesome KD was that year. In no way does SGAs current year compare very favourably to KD in 2013-2014. They are actually strikingly similar in a lot of ways. Slightly different styles, both good defensively. KD gets the edge because his size and shooting makes him tougher to game plan in the playoffs.

KD could average 20 at age 50 just because of his size, length and shooting. I’d bet money an 80 year old KD could still score on almost anyone in the league because of this.

funny you'd bring up playoffs. remember mr unreliable? memphis gave him fits and that was one team (though i guess they did up losing to SA in his MVP year, so two teams). nowadays, the NBA is full of teams like memphis. the level of competition KD was playing against back then simply can't match up to what you have to go against this year in the west. and OKC is dominating all of those teams. there's a reason this will be a historic level MVP while KD's is just an MVP. who was he competing against? LeResting for playoffs?

You could be the biggest KD hater and you'd still have to admit the answer is KD here.

KD wasn't even close to LeBron, it's highly debatable if he was even the best player on his own team.

This is really close. I'll lean Shai due to superior playmaking and defense. I think KD's the better pure shot-maker, but he turns the ball over more, so the scoring difference is negligible. 2024 and 2025 Shai is a decent correspondence to 2013 and 2014 KD. Close runner-up MVP to an ATG followed by a (most likely) maiden MVP win. Huge stats, impact, and team success.

SGA is currently better than Durant ever was. Durant never had an impressive playoffs run or led a team without a superstar to a #1 seed. SGA doesn’t even have a real all-star teammate .

Is this really such a crazy idea though?

LeBron was clearly the best player of his generation, and Durant was has 1B during the Miami years. Jokic is clearly the best player of this generation, and Shai has been neck and neck with Jokic all year in the MVP race.

32/7.5/5.5 with 2.7 Stocks on 50/39/87 shooting, 59-23 team record for Durant in 2013-2014

vs:

33/5/6 with 2.8 Stocks on 52/38/90 shooting, 67-15 record (projected) for SGA in 2024-2025

It's pretty close.

One of the craziest things with KD is just how little love he gets from the referees... Players are allowed to get extra physical with him, while it's the opposite with Shai.

If you look at Shai funny you're in danger of getting a technical foul

KD got yall fooled.

The man literally had a superteam around him and still couldn't win a championship. Yeah it was early in his career, but that team should have won a championship. Harden was your 6th man at the time.

SGA feels like he can accomplish more in OKC in the coming years. Give me SGA.

Yeah, it's pretty close, Shai is a better on-ball playmaker and defender, but Durant was very good in both at his peak, KD is a better scorer, but SGA is an elite scorer on his own as well. Toss a coin and tell me your result.

33-5-6 on +7rTS and elite defense on +12 SRS team vs 32-7-5 on +9 rTS% and very good defense on +6.7 SRS team (with Westbrook missing 40% of regular season). KD was the best scoring player in the NBA by almost ~5 PPG, Shai is the best scorer by ~3 PPG. KD was 24th in APG, Shai is 15th.

It's so close.

OKC took the 73 wins GSW to game 7. OKC was battling with the Kawhi Leonard - Duncan Spurs (67 win pace) and the Miami Heat. To say competition wasn't tough a decade ago is kind of a joke. The West has been a blood bath since the year 2000.

You must have been 10 in the 2000s. "Mr. Unreliable"? LOL. Dude brought Thabo and Collison to the Finals at 23 years old to face off against Bosh, Wade and LeBron.
