LeBron James shared candid thoughts about NBA reporter Brian Windhorst

Post#1 » by HighFlyer23 » Sun Mar 30, 2025 7:23 am

LeBron James appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Wednesday and shared his candid thoughts about NBA reporter Brian Windhorst during the discussion.

"I see Brian Windhorst on one of these shows not too long ago. The guy who says he’s like my (expletive) best friend," James said. "These guys … it’s weird."

In another exchange, the Lakers star referenced previous comments about his early deal with Nike. Windhorst had previously mentioned that LeBron chose the number 23 because he wanted to be the face of the NBA, inspired by Michael Jordan and his partnership with Nike.

However, during the "The Pat McAfee Show," LeBron clarified that he signed with Nike primarily for the signing bonus, which would allow him to help move his mom out of a difficult living situation. He also expressed a desire to wear Nike gear off the court.

Windy on Lebron:

"He chose to wear 23. He also said I never asked to be the face of the league. Of course he asked to be the face of the league. He signed a $90 million Nike contract. Why? Because of Jordan" pic.twitter.com/aiQLUUH7hL

Brian Windhorst and LeBron James history

Brian Windhorst, a seasoned NBA reporter, has been covering the league for several years. He and James are both from Akron. Windhorst started his career reporting on the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2003 to 2008 and later joined ESPN in 2010. His association with LeBron James dates back to James' high school days at St. Vincent-St. Mary, and he has been following his career closely ever since.

“I do wear number 23 because of Michael Jordan..

I signed with Nike because I got a hell of a signing bonus and moved my mom outta the hood the day after I signed that contract..

I also wanted to wear Nike off the court” @KingJames #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/BNyQ8Lfhpu

I actually can see Lebron point here

This fat weirdo made a career from reporting on James and it's actually nice to see this slap on the face towards an unwanted nuisance like Windhorst. Love to see a groveling obese loser get slapped in the face by the man who he has been appeasing to for decades now ... And Windhorst responded by saying "lebron doesn't owe me anything. I owe him a lot."

LOL

I'm sure anyone who has worked in a corporate environment or almost any structured work environment with multiple employees has seen these brown noser loser types ... Trade their dignity for capital or hierarchial gain ... Disgusting

I don't even like lebron and I agree with this criticism of Windhorst by him

Windhorst offers no real analysis and has zero talent or ability

But we see this fat bastard on TV year after year

Anyone can do what he does and most people would at least look and sound better than him doing it ... Fat **** wasn't made for tv or even radio but somehow is always there because of his so called "association" with lebron

Windhorst is a reporter. Why does everyone have to be a “nba analyst”. That’s what is wrong with sports media. Way too many debate shows on tv where everyone is yelling. I rather have Windhorst than loud mouth SA and Skip any day of the week.

There's zero percent chance he would be where he's at if he wasn't linked to lebron in some way

And now we finally see the truth behind him and lebron

I thought Windhorst's response was very self-aware. He knows that his reporting on Bron got him to where he is today.

Isn't this like 10 days old news? everyone talked about it already, hoops collective addressed it. LeBron had a right to call out Windy on his Nike comment, because that was stupid comment, but the rest of it is pretty sad and dumb, WIndy never saw LeBron as friend, this is just a low blow attempt to make person look pathetic - oh, he thinks we are friends, we are not...

OP didn't make himself look like a likable person at all, wow, calling Windhorst a fat loser... What a pathetic thread, Windy came out on top from this debacle with his response, made LeBron look in the wrong, and its no surprise the only people who took LeBrons sides are the types who would call people fat loser. Again, felt sad and disgusted reading OPs thoughts here, some people can be such ****.

It was definitely implied they had some kind of friendship or association

Windhorst even admitted that he enjoyed a long career based on a false pretense that him and lebron were friends

The only people who can support Windhorst are those who have also faked their way into positions or roles that they didn't have the merit to be in

No, that's definitely true. He brings up LeBron a lot and tells stories about him, but he never said they had any kind of special relationship. It's the other guys on the show who mock Windy with how he "discovered" LeBron.

Honestly don't know why people got to call Windy fat? Like what does that gain?

And yeah I think it would be annoying to know a guy built his career off you and placed himself as an authority on you by telling people he knows all your people. Like Windy may have "met" his people but he doesn't "know" his people and he doesn't "know" LeBron.

When you start playing that game and speaking for LeBron as a foremost authority, it's going to annoy the guy. It would annoy anyone.

I don't dislike Windy, he's a decent guy I think and he's one of the better reporters out there. But he is a reporter, which comes with some certain traits and he has taken advantage of pretending to know LeBron.

Based on your login date, I assume you are grown man, why you act like 14 year bully?

Underserved career? Windy was Cavaliers reporter, based on everything it seems like he worked very hard, he didn't find success because of hot take artestry. He also reported on James a lot cause LeBron was a Cavalier. Windy on record in the past saying he does not feel his and Lebrons relationship is good, because of his past reports, which were both positive and of course negative.

LeBron had a decent point on his Nike deal, if Windhorst ever said that, he deserved to be called out, but LeBron keeps on, makes up crap to bully a person further, and this freaking dude enjoying in, waht a d-bag behavior,

Putting on ignore, first impression was enough to get I am talking to a man child bully who still thinks its cool to inuslt people over their weight. People like that do not deserve attention.

Windhorst own comments that he owes lebron everything refutes everything you've posted

I post about lebron on this forum plenty of times. I use this forum to discuss and socialize like everyone else. I am a bit shocked that someone can still support a con man after being exposed.

There are scores of reporters journalists media personalities who cover the NBA like windhorst

Windhorst has been thrown in our faces repeatedly only because it's been implied he knew lebron from high school when this whole phenomenon with him started. As if he was there from tht beginning.

And what about his comments on Luka? He's just a reporter when he's ranting on about Luka weight when you can land a Boeing 747 under Windhorst chin

Windhorst to my knowledge has never misrepresented his relationship with James, Windy is one of the better reporter, and worked his way up by working for the Akron Beacon Journal which had better sports coverage than the Cleveland Plain Dealer for years. Windy also knows a lot of things relayed to him through the grapevine, not necessarily from James himself, but people who know James, who've played with James, who've overheard James, etc. Much of it he doesn't bother to run with unless it can be second sourced.

How do I now this?

Because the grapevine is vast. :)
