Ty Jerome free agency

Post#1 » by basketballRob » Sat Apr 26, 2025 10:47 pm

A big reason why the Cavs have played so well this season is Ty Jerome. The Cavs are in an IHart situation where they can only offer him $14.3m next season. Does he leave like IHart?

The Cavs would likely be over the luxury tax after Mobley's contract hits.

They’re a 2nd apron team as well and can’t sign and trade him either if I’m not mistaken.

Gilbert will probably slip him something under the table.

I could see Detroit sweeping in, they'll have cap space this off season and will look to build off their success.

Detroit makes a lot of sense for him.

They can resign him and offer him 14 mil this off-season

Other teams will likely offer him more.

Yeah but I seriously doubt he takes that.

Depends. I doubt anyone will offer him anything over 18 million.
Is 4 million a year that big of a difference when you factor in his best friend is on the Cavs. Plus who are the other teams, the Nets? New York has worse taxes than Ohio. That 14 vs 18 million becomes a lot closer.

Just depends what he values.

Does he want to get paid and start? If so, Cavs can't pay him the most or start him.

If he wants to continue to play with his childhood teammate Mitchell and college teammate Hunter, then maybe he stays.

No one can blame him for cashing out if he does. Mozgov and Delly both left and got paid when the Cavs won the title in 2016.

TJ's value will never be higher than it is right now, same for Sam Merrill.ImageImage

Nets could offer him more money AND a starting role which should take precedence in his decision.

Detroit is also a realistic option.

Yeah because he loves Cleveland so much that he will turn down 5 million a year or more when he hasn't made peanuts so far in his career. That's some serious wishful thinking.

There's what, 2 teams with that kind of cap this summer? Would Detroit pay him that? Or BRK?

I dunno. 1 good year doesnt usually have teams opening up the wallets. He's been a genuine star impact player in his role, but this is the first year he's been a positive player in this league.

The Cavs cap is getting really interesting now that they need to pay Mobley like $10m more per year after the DPOY.

Utah also has $30m.
