SGA Just Took the Crown — Jokic Let Him Have It
Jokic had 5 turnovers tonight and it should’ve been more. A lot of those botched entry passes? They're credited to others, but anyone watching could see Jokic begging for the ball in traffic, then standing flat-footed while it got picked off.
He took just 9 shots in a do-or-die game and finished -23.
But anyway, let’s not focus on the negatives, because we're often too guilty of that.
Let’s talk about the real story, the coronation of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as the best player in the world.
I’ve never had him in my top 2 even, but this series has ended the debate. Shai has taken the mantle. Jokic had his window. SGA just kicked it shut. Congrats to SGA and Thunder fans.

If they switch teams do you think SGA is winning this series with Denver, or even taking them to 7?
Also, what happened to your Lakers/Mavs WCF prediction?

No mention whatsoever of Joker's supporting cast who collectively failed to show up today

Re: SGA Just Took the Crown — Jokic Let Him Have It
SGA is not a better player than Jokic. This is the same "caught in the moment" scenario like last year Mavs vs Celtics. One player shows up while others completely stink it up.
OKC are a strong all around team... Nuggets are Jokic and occasionally Murray. AG has been amazing but got injured at the wrong time, MPJ also injured. On top of that Nuggets have literally no bench lol...
This is the new NBA, last season Celtics showed us what it means if you have a stacked team, this season it's OKC. Nuggets pushing them to game 7 is an incredible achievement on its own.

If Jokic got traded to OkC, he would instantly become their best player…for whatever that is worth.

Lakers had no center, Reddick got exposed (still think he'll be a great coach), and Luka was fat and unserious. Mavs, that was just a long shot.
I don't think you can switch them, because Denver would have no center, while Thunder would suddenly have 3 and a half. However, Thunder mainly won by brutalizing Denver inside. Jokic is the Center and provided no resistance at all, even when Thunder went small, they got whatever they wanted at the rim, right around Jokic. If you replace Jokic with Wemby, the Nuggets win this game, and that is a second year player. So this loss has to be on Joker, on defense alone. And he was also a liability offensively, so he ended up giving you nothing.

I have to say you been in the top 5 worst posters this year… there have been plenty of contenders but I think by the end of nba season, you will be at the top.

Fair enough, and I agree OKC is deeper. But this loss was on Jokic. The interior defense was weak, he turned the ball over way too much, and he only took 9 shots. You can’t pin it on the supporting cast when the star himself doesn’t show up. If he puts in a dominant performance and they still lose, then blame the bench. But that wasn’t the case here.

Kind of, but a lot of it was self-inflicted. Jokic was trying to force touches without actually shooting—he’d spend 10–15 seconds demanding the ball while being swarmed by 2–3 smalls past the high elbow, over and over, even though it clearly wasn’t working. It completely stalled the offense. If he was going to hijack possessions like that, I’d rather he just went down swinging with an 8-for-30 night.

Jokic is still the best player in the league. SGA has much better supporting cast. Even adding swapping Caruso for Westbrook and this series goes to Denver.

Okc has to win it all for SGA to get the crown but ya it might be different had Jokic gone off for 37/15/12 in a loss. 22to for Denver today is brutal.

SGA is a great player, but Jokic is better than him.
The difference in the series was the supporting cast around OKC.

This post immediately reminded me of this recent commentary from conservative pundit Scott Jennings. The first reaction is... you've got to be **** me. Then... it's got to be a bit, a troll job. Finally you realize... no, he really believes this crap.
"When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world...
... NO, YOU MOVE."

Haha I remember back in the day this place used to always roast ESPN and how bad all those talking heads shows have gotten because of the ridiculous hot takes and the horrible arguments that clearly left out any kind of nuance.
Guess that just goes to show the power of the national media. That’s basically how every conversation about the NBA goes now. Just dumb over the top engagement farming arguments.

Re: SGA Just Took the Crown — Jokic Let Him Have It
It takes more than a series or a season to claim the best player in the league title. That's a rolling 3 year process for me. Jokic still gets the benefit.
I will say that SGA outplayed Jokic in this series and outplayed Luka last year in the playoffs. Hopefully people can at least back off their "gUard VeRsiOn of EmbIiD!!1" claims.

Caruso held Jokic to 20 points and had him gassed. Enough of the best player narrative.
