Raptors: Masai’s hunt for another championship!?

Post#1 » by Knicks365247 » Mon Jun 2, 2025 3:59 am

With Tatum out likely all of 25-26, and the Cavs being proved mortal while probably doing some type of significant roster overhaul, that means the East should be wide open next season.

There’s rumblings that the Raptors are big fish hunting. I doubt they could swing Giannis. They wouldn’t be competitive with what they would have to give up, and Giannis would likely leave in free agency.

So does Masai turn his attention to Embiid and buy him at an incredibly low price?

A trade that works in the trade machine is:

Embiid

For

RJ Barrett
Poeltl
Agbaji
And maybe they throw in a protected first?

Would Masai be a fool to roll the dice on “Embroken”? Or is this the type of smart gamble that could pay off huge?

Personally, I think Embiid’s injury issues are massive and he’s only a few seasons away from forced retirement.

Thanks. I’ll hang up and listen now.

We don't have the roster depth to contend after trading for an Embiid or Giannis.

I think Cavs should go after Gianni. Trade a package Garland and Allen or Ty Jerome and Mobley.

If he actually trades for embiid, he should hand in his resignation paper the next day.

Raptors could absolutely get Giannis.

Barnes+RJ for Giannis is a competitive player base to add picks too

Raps would still have IQ, Dick, BI, Poeltl around Giannis

Raps' title run was as flukey as it gets, maybe in another 10 years it happens again but not immediately.

The Raptors had almost a decade of making the playoffs and being a high seed. They kept running into Lebron James.

We just needed one player that can lift the whole team, and get a bucket when needed. Kawhi was that guy.

The team had:

Kyle Lowry: 6× NBA All-Star (2015–2020), All-NBA Third Team (2016)

Marc Gasol: 3× NBA All-Star (2012, 2015, 2017), All-NBA First Team (2015), All-NBA Second Team (2013), NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2013), NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2013)

Pascal Siakam: NBA Most Improved Player (2019) Future 2× NBA All-Star (2020, 2023), All-NBA Second Team (2020), All-NBA Third Team (2022)

Danny Green: NBA Champion (2014), NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2017)

Serge Ibaka: 3× NBA All-Defensive First Team (2012–2014)

Fred VanVleet:
NBA Champion (2019), NBA All-Star (2022)

Not to forget: OG and Norm Powell.

That's really, really not a fluke.

Plus add 3 1sts.

Raps could also facilitate a larger trade with NOP, where Milwaukee gets their pick back. Thinking along the lines of taking on Dejounte (out with achilles maybe all of next year) for Quickley. That Milwaukee pick will be good, but why rely on a lottery when you can guaranteed cash out of Dejounte. Maybe Alvarado goes to TOR, as they need a PG. it needs to be balanced out, but this is the base of a framework to get Milwaukee their pick back.

The Raps had a SRS of 7.29 in 2017/2018 before getting Kawhi, that's ELITE.

2020: 6.28
2021: 3.22
2022: 5.52
2023: 3.04
2024: 10.74

Those are the SRS of the past 5 champs. People are really under estimating how good those Raptors Team pre-Kawhi where... and then you trade Demar for Danny Green + Kawhi Leonard, and upgrade from Valanciunas to Marc Gasol... I think the 2019 Raptors are one of the better teams to win it all in recent memory. Just a deep squad, with star power, vets, and great coaching. Theres a reason why they where great even the next season minus Kawhi.

It's too messy for Bucks to get their picks back.

RJ+Barnes plus capspace and Portis/BroLo will get the bucks play in level in the East

I can't quite figure out the Giannis Raps thing, how is that a better situation than the Bucks after they trade what assets they have?

It’s much easier to build around Giannis at the end of the day than Scottie. Assuming Scottie and mostly picks goes out, you still have enough to make a move or 2. Most importantly, your future isn’t tied to Damien Lillard coming off an Achilles injury

seems marginal upgrade at best

Giannis, Ingram, Quickley, Poeltl is the foundation for a top 6 team. With a couple of moves they could be top 3 in the East.

I do have sources.

Masai is my friend’s dentist’s brother in law’s third cousin.

I’d be a bit surprised if Giannis lands in Toronto.

Embiid would be a terrible move for us.

Giannis would be awesome, depending on the particular package required, but contention is going to be challenging regardless, even with a weakened East.

Obviously, we'd love to get Giannis. But Giannis has a decent team in Milwaukee and I'm struggling to see how we could get him and then still have enough to do much better than Milwaukee did, especially lacking a Lillard-level player (even minding that Lillard is old now).
