I don't know anything about him, but if your team isn't currently competing for a championship with a stable roster then I see no reason not to swing for the fences on an unknown coach with a solid resume. The endless retreads get boring.

His resume was unimpressive. Not sure what makes him stand out over other candidates. Maybe he fits into Sun's front office style of team building?

This whole ordeal about doing interviews and what not seemed like a smokescreen for what was already decided and assumed by Suns fans: Ishbia had long decided his fellow Michigan State alum would be the guy. And while Ott might be a good coach in his own right, the connection by way of school is what stinks about it. This is a "bro" hire and little else. That said, hopefully it bares some fruit that aren't spoiled on the tree or vine.

So the Suns would rather pay Vogel and Bud not to coach because they wanted a first time head coach lol.
