If Pacers win it all, what does it say about the Knicks?

Took the Champs to 6 games but fired their coach regardless.

It's Finals or bust now.

Nothing?

The Knicks were built to beat Boston, and they got a bit of a hand with that when Tatum got injured. Tatum may not be healthy enough by the end of next season to help the Celtics, which would open another window for the Knicks. The Knicks need to add 2-3 players to give themselves some depth.

We'll have to see how the offseason plays out and where Durant ends up, if Giannis gets moved, if Cleveland, Orlando, and/or Detroit are able to improve their roster. Philadelphia should be healthier next year, which adds in another contender.

I think its more about the players needing a new voice and Thibs isn't really a "player's coach" ... no one is really questioning whether or not he is a good coach he clearly is in the top half of coaches in the league the results speak for themselves.

But yeah, if the Pacers could beat OKC in 5 games it really would show just how close the Knicks were to a possible championship this season.... it feels like they would seem further away if Indy lost in 5 to OKC.

None of those teams took the ECF Champs to 6 games though. OKC is down 0-1 at home.

Pacers in the driver's seat against another juggernaut.

Says that the Knicks are right there with the top teams. Without the historic G1 collapse we would have been looking at a G7 in MSG, where everything would have been possible.

They're a good team, do we need to go deeper?

This may well have been the best/most opportune season for the Knicks to break their 50 plus year ring drought.

Mind you I don't think the Knicks had any chance of beating OKC in a 7 game series but still if the Pacers win the finals, it will haunt Knicks fans for years to come, the East (sans Boston) will be younger and stronger next season..

This year in hindsight was the best opportunity for the Knicks to win a chip since 1994 and they blew it

Still at their natural ceiling with Thibs

You've traded Bridges who's an excellent secondary ball handler and has shown that in every chance he's got and not really utilized him enough, a lot went to letting Brunson run everything (Which all honesty, gets you very far) but didn't really have enough juice to get you to a position for the finals

They should of beaten Detroit easier, They absolutely smacked Boston (Even With Tatum going down, They had that game won and would of been up 3-1)

Plus it was clear he was at the end of his bag and throwing **** at the wall at the end, Delon Wright copped more DNP's during the season then actual games, by the end of it Thibs is using him for 10MPG,

I wouldn't of fired him unless you have someone better lined up, but I dont think it's crazy to let Thibs go

I said the same thing about Denver taking OKC to 7. To me, it could be quite possible that they were the second best team overall even though truthfully I don't see them beating OKC.

That being said, I'd they have a good coach lined up, firing Thibs was the right move. Thibs has a ceiling to his coaching style so it wasn't likely he would be the coach to lead NYC to the finals regardless.

It says that the Pacers have their number historically in the playoffs. (Pacers have won last 4 playoff series since 2000)

The Knicks were viewed as like a top 3 east team and finished in the top 2. Idk why people are pretending it’s a disappointment. The players straight up got outplayed by the Pacers players. People can’t accept that the Pacers are super talent d for some reason

Not much. Even the most diehard Knicks fans knew deep down that they weren't beating the Pacers after Game 1.

Just wasn't a good matchup for them, one team was collected, composed and gritty, the other had plenty of internal friction, didn't truly believe in themselves, and had their Top 2 guys consistently complaining to the referees at the first sight of adversity.

Yeah and Lebron, Harden, Randle and Myles Turner could all decide to sign with us for the vet minimum in the offseason^^. There is a good chance that Detroit continues to develop, simultaneously there is a very good chance that Orlando doesn´t have that much bad luck with injuries next season as well. But there is definitely still a gap to contender for both atm. It isn´t unrealistic that they close it, but I would be surprised if they are clearly better than us.

But what makes you think Atlanta could be significantly better? Especially after just trading Hunter? Yes Daniels, Johnson and Okongwu might improve, but they are now a treadmill team for a few seasons, so I don´t really see how they drastically improve in one offseason.

But Philly has to be a troll  . Unless they build a time travel machine and replace current Paul George with his 18-19 version and turn Embiid into RoboCop there is no way that Philly will be contending next year.

Detroit and Orlando will be better next season (provided they come into the playoffs healthy). Atlanta is a TBD.
