How much luck can you have...

Post#1 » by Miami_Lux » Fri Jun 6, 2025 1:48 pm

I know I will get a lot of hate for this but I think the Pacers are the luckiest team I ve ever seen in pro sports. If they should win the championship there shouldn t be an asterisk but a huge horseshoe next to the team name.

There is always a component of luck with the teams that manage to make it to the finals. With how many variables there are, luck has to be a part of it. But regardless, they beat their competition, fair and square. Hali is on a legendary run, we don't see this often.

“Luck” is the Mavs getting the first pick in the draft. Last night wasn’t luck.

There is always a component of luck but I do not think I ever saw a team have so much of it in two years running, both with injury situations to opponents, and last second wins.
It's not only Hali but Nesmith, Turner, Nembhard, McConnell, Siakam all have taken turns to morph into some uber clutch performers in span of only several weeks. It's been entertaining at least, that's for sure.

What's wrong with luck? That's a huge part of why we watch. Every time you get a game winning situation there's a huge amount of luck. That's kinda why it's fun.

You don’t win games where you turn the ball over 24 times. and if you do you are lucky…and again mo lead until the last shot of the game. luck

I joked about this on my own board, but we've seen this all playoffs from them....after a while it ceases to be "luck".

Pacers have won 4 games this postseason when their opponent had greater than 95% chance of winning. That’s insane but you can’t really call it luck when it becomes a trend. Pacers have continued to show that they’re resilient and have incredible stamina. They wear you down over the course of a game and pounce on you when you put your guard down.

I think the Pacers definitely deserve more credit than just being counted as lucky, but come on now, they definitely did luck out many times last night, especially in the 4th.

Myles Turner's banked in three, Nembhard's airball that fell to Siakam's lap inside, bunch of possessions that almost resulted in a turnover but ended up in a Pacer's hands out of a scramble, etc.

But those are basketball plays that happen. Fans coming up with "luck" asterisk has to be a new one. I thought injury luck was a thing, now we have lucky plays asterisk lol, come on people.

2024 - Celtics lucky that even though Tatum played mid, their opponents were injured and they faced an over achieving Mavs team in finals

2023 - Nuggets lucky opponents were injured and never faced a 50 win team. Faced a play-in team that over achieved to make finals (Heat)

2022 - Warriors lucky opponents were all injured. Wiggins played like an all-star for one year only and this year was it.

2021 - Bucks lucky with East injuries and beat a weak finals opponent in Suns

2020 - Lakers lucky cause Bubble

2019 - Raptors lucky Kawhi got a lucky bounce against 76ers and KD + Klay got injured in finals

Can do this every year. It always takes luck to win the chip.

Yeah so lucky to have not one, not two, not there, not four, not five, but six guys in the rotation taking turns making huge buckets to lead the comeback. Down the line you had a: Toppin 3, Turner 3, Turner 2, Hali 2, Nesmith 3, Nembhard 3, Pascal Block, Pascal OREB and put back 2, and then the Hali game winner.

Soooooooooo damn lucky.

Luck = opportunity + preparation

They are well-coached and put themselves in a position to win.

As I said, you can't chalk up what happened to just luck. They did very well and they've done it a bunch of times. But to say I saw no luck is also insincere.

Fluke plays are basketball plays, yes, but they are fluke plays nevertheless. A banked three or an airball falling on your lap are sheer luck.

How asinine must be for those players who worked so hard on that craft, outwork and stun their opponents several times, and guy on the internet comes out and says - oh you just got lucky...

I agree that they're "lucky" in terms of how that word is used in analytics to describe events that are unlikely to happen and have low predictive power moving forward (and I still expect OKC to win this series in less than 7 games). But that's deserved luck, they made those plays happen. It's not the same as lottery luck that's truly out of their control
