You have 1 time out left, 5 seconds left with the ball.

Game is on the line, do you call the time out or not?

:hoop: :hoop: :hoop:

In most cases, I think I would call a time out. I was surprised Rick didn't call it, it didn't seem like Pacers had any advantage there, but hey, maybe I am wrong, it worked.

If I have the player with the highest basketball IQ and clutch genes on the court, no.

I didn't think they had a timeout, maybe they did and they just went for it??

For me personally I'd go for it.

I believe they had it. As international basketball fan, i prefer FIBA rule, where you can't call timeout during live ball, but if I can, I would have called a timeout there.

Depends. I don't think I'd want to let OKC's defense get set.

Who is leading, and by how much?

In this situation, you're behind going for the win.

Where is the player with the ball? Does that player know to score? Is the opposing defense set or scrambling to get back? Is the ballhandler open or guarded?

There are a lot circumstances that matter in situations like these...

Never question Jim Carey

Almost always have a cleaner shot without the time out because giving defense time to set up is generally a negative.

Getting up the court in the flow of the game is generally the better option, even more so if you have a go to player who will be a lot more free at the time.

Depends on the basketball IQ of my ball handlers. High IQ =no time out. Medium or Low IQ = timeout

Depends on the scenario. The last thing you would want is to let OKC get their defense set and make your shot MORE difficult to get off. Game 1 ending was nerve wracking, and almost had me questioning it live, but it was a great decision.

5s is really low. I think i would take a time-out... the problem is that the refs allow so much contact at the end of the game that it's hard to even inbound. So at around 8s or so i think it's a no brainer that you don't take it if you have a good ball handler and decision maker. Panic defensive rotations are sure to benefit the offensive side compared to a set defense where it's hard to even inbound in the first place

Against OKC and with Haliburton having the ball? No chance, let Hali cook before OKC set their defense, if the ball was with Neismith or Nembhard and Haliburton is sealed, then sure.

Depends.

Is my star someone like Zion Williamson or Paul George? Damn right I'm calling a timeout.

Is it Luka Doncic or LeBron James? Probably not.

Actually I might call one for Luka just so I can get his ass over the halfway line in 5 seconds.

In the situation that was given, not calling timeout.

Especially after the last timeout Carlisle told the team if OKC misses, and we get it I'm not calling a timeout. They had already planned for that situation. Which clearly caught OKC off guard. They didn't even try to get the ball out of his hand or force him to the left. I think they were scrambling.

Thunders would have too much advantage after a timeout, Rick took a smart decision.
OKC didn't have their best defenders on the court without their bigs. Not giving them time subbing in Chet or Hartenstein, gave Haliburton the advantage. After timeout the closing out defender would be Dort or Caruso plus no paint chance. Not the much smaller Wallace.

Depends on who's on my team and the specifics the situation. My big gets a rebound? Immediate timeout. Inbounding off a made free throw? Depends on if I've get an elite guard that can shoot from distance off the dribble.

If I'm a team like say the Celtics or Nuggets, I'm calling a timeout and drawing up a play for Tatum or Jokic.

In general it feels more advantageous for the defense to get a timeout to set their defense and go over coverages.

If you have someone like Joker handling the ball then no timeout; if you have some like WB you call
