Likely they're slippery. At least more than the standard floor.

Seems like in 2025 we should be able to put the words finals on the floor without jeopardizing player safety.

Yeah it's a cop-out because of the flack they are getting with the In-Season Tournament having the courts they have to pump it to the casual fans.

So the Finals trophy is a decal but the advertisements are okay? Got it.

Can't they just overlay it in post? They put advertisements on the court that way, how would this be any different? Players can run over those ads and there is no artifacting or weird greenscreen-esque inconsistencies.

These players are paid millions to slip on decals. It's player empowerment gone mad

Like by not using decals. Have a floor ready with incorporated finals logo.

If they can make safe new floors for the in-season tournament, they ought to figure it out for the premiere event all others are on the way to.

The logos have been there for decades and I've never seen a single ankle injury in the Finals that came directly from slipping on the court randomly, or at the least directly from falling over the logo.

It's cap. Stop believing what they tell you.

"Tyrese Haliburton seems to slip on the floor decal"

LOL There's 5 paragraph long text about how good their SEO expertise , but in 1st paragraph they call Haliburton a Sacramento Kings rookie

Meh, if it's 1% more slippery eff that.

Did someone just make this issue up? why?

Player safety > your vibes.

Then why isn't every single foul an automatic ejection? To enhance player safety.
Why isn't diving for loose balls illegal?

Clearly, there's a cut-off for "player safety" vs "vibes"

To be honest, it doesn’t even look good, so can’t understand the gripes.

Looks cartoonish and amateur, imo.

They have digital google ads on the court, they could easily insert a Finals logo on each side of the court, but I guess that would just get in the way of the ads.

This is really it. I imagine there’s some amount of text people are willing to stomach that’s been focus grouped to death and the priority is to maximize ads.

If the logo was there, RealGM would have found a way to whine about it. This is standard RealGM contrarian take. LOL

The quote in op is from 2014

It says:

There were a lot of considerations taken into account in making this decision, including player safety,’ an NBA spokesman said in 2014 of removing playoff decals. ‘We decided to remove the playoffs logo from the court for a variety of reasons, including cleaning up the playing surface.’”

They only site player safty as part of the reason. This is not new information, it’s from back in 2014.

And i remember there were complaints that players were slipping on the decal, that the ball dribbled differently on the decal and that the players were concerned.

But like everyone else said. Just make a court with the decal embedded UNDER the finish of the court. I guess they don’t want to spend the money
