Aren't they American born and raised? Do they need to get Jamaican citizenship to play for the team?

Their father is from Jamaica. Since they've never played for Team USA, if the Federation will accept them, it's up to them to decide what to do.

i'll give you a better reason

they get to play TOGETHER. hellz, it could have been antarctica for all they cared
the usa doesn't guarantee they both get chosen, they both play or even get minutes together

As long as they have a real connection to the country then I am all for it, but if it is just to try to find a way to get yourself to Olympics etc with some other country than USA then this must be stopped! You cannot have Americans take over half the teams that compete in the Olympics or the World Cup.

I don't see an issue with that. Jamaica would have a solid team if they get those guys, with defense being a major strength.

Amen is a rising star and could get consideration from Team USA in the future, but him making that team is a longshot.

Against some world teams it will be Team USA Varsity against Team USA JV.

More dual citizen (American half) should do this.Still disappointed that Austin Reaves played for Team USA when he could have played for Germany. You know Grant Hill was just using him and steal him from Germany by choosing him in that USA Team B World Cup roster. LOL

Remember though FIBA has a "naturalized" rule that if any of these players did not get their passports by 16, they are considered as naturalized. Each team is only allowed one. The Philippines could potentially recruit many overseas players with heritage, but are restricted by the "naturalized" rule. But then again, there is Nigeria where like the majority of their roster are American-born or diaspora that end up making the team.

A major hurdle is FIBA’s requirement that players must have obtained their passports before the age of 16 to be eligible to represent a national team. While many of the targeted players meet this requirement, others, such as Norman Powell, acquired their Jamaican passports later and will require a special appeal. “We are working with FIBA’s legal team to navigate this process, ensuring that as many of our key players as possible can represent Jamaica,” Gordon stated.

The program, is reportedly recruiting NBA players with Jamaican heritage. That list includes Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart, San Antonio Spurs guard Devin Vassell, Timberwolves forward Josh Minott, and twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson, who have begun the process of acquiring Jamaican passports, according to Blake.

Everyone else faced with far less tenacity.

Same thing that's happening to Caitlin Clark.

Well obviously they need a citizenship. This news is couple days old, Jamaica could end up pretty strong if all 5 suit up. Five I speak of are Scottie Barnes, Isaiah Stewart, Devin Vassell and Thompson twins. Thompsons just started working one their paperwork. The real question is - can they do the accent?

I can't follow these rules no more. Some countries can be allowed 10 basically naturalized players, others cant. But I am not complaining, we are allowed to add Buzelis, and I am not sure he had Lithuanian passport. Lithuania wasnt allowing dual citezenships for a long time, we just had referendum on that. I think that obviously impacts FIBA treating, coutries individual politics and history. Some countries had civil wars and populations fled to other countries. These countries might have more leeway when bringing up immigrant children players.

And Germany became world champs in a tourney Austin Reaves absolutely sucked, i think it worked out well for Germans. If they leave Obst at home for Reaves, they probably never see gold.

The country that was mad were Italy, who were promised by Paulo that he will play for them, but then he changed his mind at the last second and suited up for USA.

If Andi Obst hadn't played, all basketball fans in Germany would have started a riot (yes, all twelve of them).

I still wonder of Christian Braun has german ancestors though, since he has the most German name ever. Could need him in the future.

Sure. Reaves would still have been an asset though but i guess the Germans don't have that much money for FIBA Free Agency. :D

That's a very solid roster. Could add Josh Minott, Shevon Thompson and Dylan Ennis to the bench.

FWIW, Andre Drummond and the Champagnie brothers are also of Jamaican descent.
