If Pacers win, would they be the first-ever championship without a HOFer

For a while, the Pistons were considered the one championship without a HOFer, but Billups and Wallace ended up as HOFers, which wasn't always expected . To my knowledge, there hasn't been an NBA champion without a HOFer post-merger (and maybe pre-merger too?)

For the recent championships, we obviously don't know what will happen - but barring injury or shocking decline, Tatum (2024), Jokic (2023), and Giannis (2021) will be HOFers. For 2019, Kawhi will make the HOF even if he retired today. And obviously, players like Curry, Durant, LeBron, and others will make it

For the 2025 Pacers - is there anyone on the roster who you think will be HOFers? Barring a dramatic increase in performance, do you really think Siakam and/or Halliburton can get in like Billups and Ben Wallace? Rick Carilsle might be a HOF coach though

Pretty sure Hali and Siakam will be in HOF, they have Calvin Murphy in there…

Carlisle is a HOF coach and I have a hard time seeing Siakam not making the HOF as well. Haliburton just needs to keep doing what he's doing.

Most of their roster is 25 or younger. Way too early to tell but Haliburton is trending towards HOF. He should continue to get better and stronger as he ages. Siakim is borderline probably but adding a 2nd championship would definitely help and he should be apart of a strong Pacer team for the next few years.

put some respect on TJ McConnell's name....

But also Rick and Pascal are clear HoFers(Siakam with said title, Carlisle already is). Halliburton is too soon, but good start being a 1a on a title team.

This is a good question! Maybe somebody can answer for us later. If it's ever happen pre- merger and post- merger?
2004 Pistons were close until Wallace and Billups recently inducted, kinda unexpected.
If Pacers do win it all, they could be the first ever.

But...
Hali has potential to HOF, still very young and he'll be part of a contending Pacers team for years to come. Siakim a lil older than Hali, but he's possibly in, has credentials. Lots of it.
Rick Carlisle for sure will be HOF (played too, but really for his coaching) .

Yup re: Rick and Hali.

I’d think winning this Finals would seal the deal for Pascal as a HoF, esp if he’s the Finals MVP, which he very well could be. Currently leads Indy in points, rebounds, blocks and steals, plus 3rd in assists.

Regardless if they win or not, he seems like a shoo-in to me for more all star berths as I think this Indy team is destined for more regular season success moving forward. I think more will be added to his resume win or lose. It does become a more borderline question though if they lose.

How many NBA teams can we say have no future HOFers?

I'd say almost all playoff teams and even half of the non playoff teams have some potential or expected future HOFer on their roster.

HOFers are at the end of the players careers, how are we supposed to know that?

Way to early to count Haliburton out, and Siakim i'd say is likely leaning towards HOF, if PAcers win he'd have the following accolades with more on the way likely:

2x NBA CHampion
1x NBA D-League Champion
D-League Finals MVP
Conference Finals MVP
3x All-Star
2x All-NBA
NBA-MIP
WAC Player of the Year
WAC Freshman of the Year

The good with the trade to the Pacers is that Pascal should be in line to become a perennial All Star game for the next few years. With 3 nods already under his belt, he'll hit the benchmark minimum to be considered with two rings as the 3rd and then 2nd best player on those title teams.

So until a player retires, we can’t deduce whether he is a future HOFer or not?

Haliburton is a Jamal Crawford / Bojan Bogdovich player or, at best, an Allan Houston type. Siakam is like Amare Stoudamire. Not HOFers

I do think that Siakam has a good chance of making it into the HOF, but I had a chuckle when you listed his D-League accomplishments.

I would definitely disagree with Wallace and Billups being unexpected to make the HOF. Wallace won 4 DPOYs, made 4 All Star teams, 5 All NBA teams and 6 All Defense teams. Billups made 5 All Star teams, 3 All NBA teams, 2 All Defense teams and won finals MVP. That's more achievements than quite a few other players that made the HOF before them.

Seriously? Crawford was basically a career backup, a good one, but come on. Allan Houston, come on man. Bojan Bogdanovic are you **** kidding me, you're just trolling now. Go hide in shame.

If Haliburton keeps up the pace he's playing at for the next 5 years or so, he's a can't miss HOFer. He could be this generation's Steve Nash.

Paskal is right there, he might get in regardless if he wins another title, definitely if he does. Not as a sure bet as Hali though.

Ben Wallace and Chauncey Billups were never referred to as future HOFers during their careers

I would have said Pascal Siakam was on a kind of Eddie Jones trajectory (who was not HOF), but does Eddie Jones with 2 NBA championships make the hall? Possibly. Biggest knock on him was not showing up in playoffs, where Siakam has proven himself. 2 championships with different teams may be enough.

https://stathead.com/basketball/versus-finder.cgi?request=1&seasons_type=perchoice&player_id1=siakapa01&p1yrfrom=2017&p1yrto=2025&player_id2=jonesed02&p2yrfrom=1995&p2yrto=2003

Agreed on Hali and Carlisle being future HOF at current trajectory.

you guys are insane to think Siakam is on his way to HOF  Hali yes he will eventually end up in HOF if he keep the same trajectory
