Is the WNBA the new 80’s and 90’s NBA

Post#1 » by snaquille oatmeal » Wed Jun 18, 2025 3:41 pm

Girls be fighting!!!
The refs are eating their whistles. NBA fans would be rioting if the refs called the games the way they do on the woman’s side. Caitlyn Clark gets the opposite of superstar calls, nobody getting ejected for dirty hard fouls to the head of players. I gotta admit it is fun but somebody is gonna get hurt and it makes me wonder how effective the flop generation of this NBA players would be if the refs would let them play like a girl (yeah that was a Ham Porter reference from the sandlot)

Bro last night CC gets raked in the face on purpose and then immediately shoved to ground and she gets a technical. What would LeBron do

I mean, for starters Lebron's just not getting knocked over like that. But it is odd that her teammates didn't make a point to lay out those who are messing with her. And once gooning starts...I suspect we'll see the refs change things up.

That said, right or wrong. When you're weaker and smaller...the hits don't hit as hard and the injury risk is less. So it might take a while before an injury happens that leads to change.

The refs are supposed to keep that kind of stuff from happening, not teammates. The refs totally crapped the bed and let this game get out of control.

It was funny seeing the Sophiengirl BJJ the eye raker after fouling her though. It is like hockey out there.

They were beefing the whole game and it got crazy later in the game. Big scuffle lot of players both sides.

Refs don't really have any power. They can eject a player. That's nothing like taking out someone's legs. That's the threat that the NBA has always ultimately used to keep these things in check. Just like how in baseball you'll get hit by a pitch if you step out of line.

Interesting. Still to have someone get checked like that and not see someone else come in swinging is wild. Especially a star.

Rant, but If WNBA wants to be serious league, they need to start playing during real regular season time, not during the summer. I am watching womens Eurobasket that started today, and it is interesting how WNBA have zero problems knowing that lots of best international players ignore WNBA, cause it takes time during FIBA events. Mostly all best WNBA players play seasons overseas, but not all best international players play in the WNBA, and it will be just a glorified summer league as long as it is just that. It was created just to fill sporless summer in AMerica, and it was fine, but now they market that league as something serious, but it is still couple month summer event that a lot of players ignore entirely. I am watching Lithuania vs SLovenia and in this game we have 5th. and 10th. pick of this years WNBA draft, but they said directly that they are not playing in WNBA cause they expect to be in Eurobasket...

I suppose NBA is mentioned here but it's really a WNBA topic. We have a WNBA board for such things: https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=472

I considered moving this thread there but I don't think the WNBA fans/mods are going to love a thread that starts out with "girls be fighting!!!" lol. But feel free to revise and make a thread about WNBA physically on the WNBA board if you'd like.
