Anyone Think Booker Asks Out (If not this off-season, next year?)

Post#1 » by jokeboy86 » Sun Jun 22, 2025 6:18 pm

He's been with the Suns his entire career and has been rewarded handsomely salary wise as he's currently on a 220mil/4/yr deal and is up for a 2yr/150mill extension on July 6. But he's essentially only played meaningful basketball in his career with the Suns in only 3 seasons. Yes he's already experienced some rough years with them early on but even with the amount of money he's due and up for is he willing to play for a rebuilding team again? I genuinely don't know what the Suns vision or plan is at this point and I'm sure he's wondering this too. I think he could still be a missing piece and the perfect #2 for some contending teams.

He has $150 million reasons to stay. I know that competition and championships matter but if I had a chance to make $75 million a year, I don’t care who is on my team.

I get it and I’m sure his agent and the players union probably feel it’s his responsibility not to pass up that much money and take the owners for every cent

Get paid crazy money to be on a team with 0 expectations to win. All the money, no blame, and you can always say you were loyal.

Clearly Bradley Beal has been doing some mentoring while in Phoenix.

They could probably get a good haul for him, given his age and production.

They should have traded him to HOU and gotten their picks back. That was their only way out of this mess, but I guess they're just going to ride it out with Booker and fight for the 10th seed every year.

Sure if he wants to end up like his teammate Beal and only cares about securing the bag.

The players get paid the same amount overall no matter what, is it really his responsibility to be the most grossly overpaid of 450 players?

Zach Lowe: I have no idea what’s gonna happen with Devin Booker. I really do believe there is, from what I’ve heard, that Devin Booker really likes the idea of being a one-team player, like a Kobe for Phoenix. He’s talked a lot about Kobe Bryant, what he means to him and all that.

He doesn’t seem like a player that will give up money for a better opportunity to compete for a championship, coincidentally he’s a lot like Beal in that regard (I honestly don’t even fault him for having that kind of mindset).

I’ve never turned down $75m a year so I can’t judge.

Lots of teams would love to have him on their roster and will pay up. He turns 28 at the start of next year. No offense to any suns fan, but there is no future for him in phoenix if he wants to compete while he's in his prime.

Funny thing about him idolizing Kobe is Kobe came close twice to leaving the Lakers cause he wasnt sure he could win a title there.

Rather, to me it feels like the Suns are the ones preparing themselves to gauge his market with the Durant trade/Jalen Green acquisition. Seems like they will just pivot with the younger Jalen Green and draft picks and start the rebuild process.
