Was the Pacers loss the most devastating in NBA history?

Losing in Game 7 of the Finals and your franchise player suffering a career-altering & likely window-closing injury is the stuff of nightmares.

Losses I'd assume are up there are the Jazz losing the 1998 Finals, the Kings losing the 2002 WCF, the Suns losing the 2007 WCSF, and the Thunder losing the 2016 WCF.

The Warriors blew a 3-1 lead and lost at home in game 7 by 4 points.

Brutal loss but they earned the respect of every basketball fan in the world because of how they play.

On the flip side the Thunder won the championship but they lost the respect of every basketball fan in the world because of how they play.

Obviously I'd rather have the championship regardless of public opinion but that has to count for something.

I’m broken hearted for them. The perfect underdog kinda team everyone always yearns for in the NBA and they’re so exciting to watch, especially juxtaposed against the Thunder. Felt like basically ever non Thunder fan was pulling for them and it’s not even like the Thunder are a team people hate or root against. It just speaks to how much more exciting and compelling the IND team was. Really special and memorable team for me.

At the time it was, but then they signed KD and won 2 straight titles afterwards.

Indy might not make it back again and their next season is a throwaway season with Hailburton's injury.

Please speak for yourself. The Thunder is a tremendous team, both offense and defensive the entire season. I have mad respect for this team.

Shouldn't generalize and say everybody but clearly the overwhelming majority of fans feel that way.

Go look through 100 pages of the Game 7 thread and you'll see it's the consensus among fans all over the NBA regardless of their favorite team.

Some of the Thunder haters have been deluded these playoffs. "Lost the respect of every basketball fan in the world" LMAO.

The only thing I saw was a bunch of the same people being salty about things. I don't know where you get overwhelming majority from.

Losing Haliburton for next season hurts more than losing game 7

I think so, Pacers should have won that series in five games. But the NBA wanted the Thunder to win.

Not only they lose game 7 but they also lost their entire next season, and their franchise star will be affected for the rest of his career.
