Jaylen Brown: What is his trade value and which teams should go for him?

Post#1 » by ChumboChappati » Wed Jun 25, 2025 7:20 pm

The Celtics have given up on the upcoming season by trading 2 veterans, Jrue & KP. Next to be traded can be Jaylen Brown.

What is his trade value, and which teams should go for him? What would be your team's trade offer?

im not sure i agree with the premise that they "have given up on the upcoming season". they needed to get their financial house in order, and they did. Jrue has been an awesome player but he is getting older and isnt irreplaceable at a lower aav. Porzingis is a unicorn but also rarely available and pretty inconsistent. it wouldnt have been surprising if they had made these same moves (or similar) even without the Tatum injury as a catalyst.

I think Jaylen Brown is overrated and overpaid. It would be a mistake for a team to not only take on that contract but also sacrifice the assets it would take to acquire him. But I think Boston should definitely try to move him and use this Tatum-less season to tank. Then they can retool in the 2026 offseason with a high lotto pick and cap space plus some assets to try and improve through trade, like Simons to S&T and the picks they'd get from trading Brown.

As for which teams might be interested, I think the Nets would be a good partner. They could absorb his huge contract without burdening Boston with any salary and they now have plenty of future picks to barter.

Memphis?
They have plenty of first round picks and young players .

I also like the fit with Jaren Jackson since ja will likely be injured somehow.

Boston should/would get more than what the Jazz received for D. Mitchell.

Brown is a solid player; however, he is grossly overpaid in my opinion (as are most players anymore). And that albatross of a contract is going to make trading him hard unless the receiving team has the assets to make it happen. I don't see BOS moving on from him even with the other trades which have occurred. If anything, they're going to rely on him even more now with Tatum's injury and rehab.

You are dreaming if you think Jaylen Brown or Derek White is getting traded. Celtics hater or maybe actually read what the beat reporters is writing, saying about the trades so far. They have already saved 200 million dollars with these contracts dump trades. You don't trade quality players in their peak when there is no reason. Trading Jaylen Brown would mean Stevens has given up on Tatum ever returning as a superstar...

Advanced metrics and stats keep saying that he should not be a high usage player on a good team and that BOS should give the ball to like all of their other players besides him. Except the team keeps giving him the ball and keep going to conf. finals and apparently the league respects him waaaaaaaay more than those advanced stats say. He's just a weird guy to value with that. Like there's legit some statistical arguments to be made he's a bad contract but it's just obvious the league doesn't value him that way. I have no idea how to reconcile those extremes to what a fair offer is.

Why's that? Brown is older, more expensive, and despite being a better/more versatile defender, provides much less than Mitchell on the other end.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I have him in the school of Zach Lavine, Lauri Mark.

Minimally positive impact impact and very overpaid by 2x

No serious contender would be interested, they would be focusing on players who outplay thier contract

If Desmond Bane fetches 4 firsts and a swap, the baseline deal will be 4 high firsts, a swap and a promising young player or two

I think Brown’s contract diminishes some of his value.

Jazz are discussing Brown, but I can't tell if they're serious about acquiring him or just helping a bro push his trade value up.

I think the Celts will still be a playoff team
White/Pritchard
Simons
Brown
Hauser/Niang
Horford/Luke
Plus lots of young guys-a lot of pride in that group. MAYBE Tatum makes it back by April?

This thread will be interesting. The fine balance between the Celtics are stacked and the Celtics are garbage.

Bane got what he did because a particular team lacking shooting saw him as the perfect guy to complete their roster, not because that was the level for a Bane-level player.

This to say, for any player to get that many assets for Brown they’ll have to convinced about his fit on their team like one team thought about Bane.

Which teams should think out Brown that way? None of them. You should t want him as your alpha, and you shouldn’t be paying a secondary alpha what Brown is getting paid.

That said, I didn’t like Orlando’s move for Bane either, but he at least made sense as a ceiling raiser for your roster, it’s just that his mere presence is not going to turn Paolo into a smart facilitator so they aren’t actually addressing the elephant in the room with the move, AND they gave up so much for Bane it’s going to make further moves harder.

His worth far more to Boston than he is in the open market currently with that contract he is signed to. He is still has ~236m remaining on the deal for the next 4 seasons.

With that said, the runway is clear for him to have a monster season and I think can comfortably pencil him for an All-NBA slot next year

No hating. Its in the news that the Celtics may trade Brown :

The Boston Celtics are willing to listen to trade offers on Jaylen Brown and Derrick White after also trading Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis this week. The Celtics are resetting their finances amid salary cap, luxury tax and apron concerns, but a trade of either Brown or White would be transformational and set up an entirely new roster for when Jayson Tatum returns in 2026
