How good will Dallas be next season?

Post#1 » by guynumber45 » Thu Jun 26, 2025 9:33 pm

Dallas Mavericks current depth chart:

PG: Kyrie/Hardy/Exum
SG: Klay/Caleb/Christie
SF: Flagg/PJ
PF: AD/Marshall/O-max
C:Lively/Gafford/Powell

Obviously, the big question marks are how good Kyrie is when he returns from the ACL, what other guard depth the Mavericks acquire while Kyrie recovers(They are currently the front runners for Dlo), and how big of an impact Flagg makes in his rookie season.

But they immediately have the potential to be one of the best defensive teams in basketball. They could be like the Rockets of last season with more offensive potential.

If I'm OKC, I feel like this team would be one of their biggest threats with all that size in the front court.

I don't think Kyrie is playing at all next season. By the time he comes back AD is another year older and still injury prone. I don't think Dallas is a threat until Cooper takes over and the team is built around him.

Apparently Kyrie is looking at a possible January return if all goes right. I think the team looks very, very good on paper once he returns. Health is a concern though, but that notwithstanding I buy them as a contender.

I think you forgot about Klay Thompson on the Mavs roster...

However, overall, they have a good chance to fight for the playoff spots. If Kyrie is back, it would be better if he's fully healthy before throwing him into playoff action again. Idk its a bit touchy, he'll be just over 1 year from that approaching the stretch run.

However defensively they look solid and can surprise some teams. AD having a healthy year would be amazing because he'll help their team a lot, especially as a scoring outlet.

Mediocre, downright bad if the injury bug hits again. Kyrie is going to be missing a least a large part of next season, Kidd has been talking about playing Flagg as a guard, that tells you right there what kind of trouble they're in when it comes to guard play, they view Naji Marshall as a point guard, not a power forward (and he's really a small forward even when he gets to play forward)

They will make the playoffs. Flagg is the real deal. His numbers won't jump out at you, but he will make winning plays. And they still have their decent young bigs along with AD.

Solidify the guard situation until Kyrie returns.

Then top 3 team easily and possibly the best team, over OKC.

i like their roster. but then we subtract Kyrie who we know is out. and we stop pretending something mysterious isnt going to happen to AD out of the blue as he fills out his career 'at least one injury per body part' bingo card. and i like the team i expect to actually see on the floor a lot less.

youve got an older Klay who can still shoot but cant really move, a good center rotation, and a rookie Flagg.

i think the real hope for DAL isnt next season but how they are positioned after that once Flagg comes online and they get Kyrie back.

edit: thinking this through really solidified how much that 1.8% chance of winning the Flagg lottery really saved DAL. i mean, jesus. i'm happy for DAL fans but can't help but feel like that stroke of luck literally saved the franchise from itself.

I think their depth is strong enough to keep them in play-in position until Kyrie returns which is supposed to be in January. How it goes from there will have a lot to do with how fully Kyrie makes it back. My gut says he'll return strong.

On paper they look like a high ceiling team, but too many things have to go right for them to reach that ceiling. They’re highly dependent on injury prone AD and injury prone Kyrie, who are both getting older. I’m not betting on both of those guys staying healthy simultaneously for a playoff run. I’d love to be wrong because I love both guys games, but the track record is what it is:

I love Flagg, but I’m also not sure this situation is the greatest for his ultimate development, or at least the fast tracking of said development. Even if it may be his best chance to experience winning initially. This team has some really mismatched timelines with a core of an aging and injury prone duo adding a teenage phenom. You get a guy like Flagg, you should be building on his timeline. But they can’t (or won’t), and for Flaggs sake I fear that even if this situation grants him immediate competitiveness the team will be in a rough spot as he’s hitting his prime unless they have some amazing front office moves up their sleeve a couple years down the line

I think they’ll probably be a playoff team, and if everyone is healthy they can be dangerous. But it’s a lot to ask.

I’ll believe it when I see it. The team may say he’s good for January, then February, then March, then for next year.

They're gonna get like 60 games out of AD next year, Kyrie may not play and Klay left his efficiency in 2016, so I don't know what to expect except mediocrity from them. Unless the stars really align for them.

If healthy I think they will be best team in playoffs next season.

Great team to long bet on, I think health is the main factor.

Smells like Tim Duncan on Spurs to me with Flagg coming in a injury year.

Inlove the positivity, zimpy.
Everything depends on the backcourt being competent and Anthony Davis staying healthy.

On paper I think they're the best team in the west and the biggest threat to OKC. Honestly if the Mavs were healthy this year I would have given them a legit chance at OKC.

Kyrie takes good care of his body, so I expect he will rehab extremely seriously. But he’s an injury prone guy, up there in age, and coming back midseason. I don’t see how he contributes meaningfully. The Mavs need to make a move and get a heady facilitator at point. We’ve seen that’s the formula with AD, even an old Rajon Rondo did enough. For how good they are next year, we need to see how in they are willing to go preseason.

They'll get DLo at least. A player that is good in the RS.

By the time playoffs come Kyrie will be up and running.

I don't have concerns about that, I only have concerns for Davis and Lively health.
