Shams: Naz Reid, T-Wolves Agree to 5-yr/$125M Extension
Minny locks up their stretch-4 on a long-term deal. And at fair market value. Congrats Wolves fans.

A lot of money for a backup center.

Feels like a bargain for the Wolves. Probably would have commanded alot more in the open market.

They need him to keep being good. He’s a good fit in Wolves.

As a correction, Naz is a Power-Forward. In all honesty, he is more of a Small-Forward than Center. He can play 3 and 5 in a pinch, but he plays the bulk of his minutes at Power-Forward. Naz Reid plays like a big wing.

Great deal for the Wolves, at $25M per think this also signals that he'll be a starter next season and either Randle or Gobert will be gone via trade.

So a backup power-forward then?
Either way I agree that characterizing him as simply a backup understates his contributions.

I think it might also just mean that inflation has gone up, the cap has gone up, and the cost for high value rotation players has increased. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept all three.

Is randle opting out of his contract? If so are they bringing him back? Seems like a lot of money to have tied up to 2 PFs

Fair deal for Minny. Now let’s see what Randle does. With no salary cap space out there, and naz secured, he doesn’t have a lot of leverage, so I am curious if he just opts in.

I'm surprised the Wolves were able to afford Naz. Thought they would have kept Randle and let Naz go. Can they still afford Randle?

Great deal by the Wolves, happy for Reid and think at $25M per that it's a sign he'll be starting next season and thay Randle or Gobert will ne trades to upgrade the PG position.
As others stated Reid's more of a 4 and had a bit of a down season this year.Think starting will make a big difference to him and will improve this season in terms of his all around game.

Wasn't correcting the characterization of him as a back-up, but had to correct the "Center" labeling because I see it constantly on the forum when it is no the case. Just a pet peeve!

For Minnesota, this seems like insurance in case Julius Randle moves on, but I don't think that this deal indicates that will happen. After missing out on the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, I think Minnesota is going for continuity, to the extent that they can control it.

A season removed from being formally recognized as the best backup in the league at any position as 6MOY.
Would they have preferred him on his massive bargain contract? Of course, but it seems like fair market value for a guy of his abilities.

I would be a proponent of keeping both Randle, Gobert, even in spite of the Reid signing. I think this core needs more playoff chances.
