Not saying it will happen what do you think of this 7 game format

Post#1 » by mdonnelly1989 » Sat Jun 28, 2025 9:27 pm

This is never going to happen. But was trying to think of the best model to give home team the best chance to win without being home team dominant.

So

Game 1: Away
Game 2: Home
Game 3: Home
Game 4: Home
Game 5: Away
Game 6: Away
Game 7: Home

So 1-3-2-1

The reason I gave the home team away game 1 was to make up for having 3 home games in a row.

Interesting and outside the box thinking, but I think 2-2-1-1-1 is perfect as is.

I personally prefer the brutality of 2-3-2, but I get why they wanna give the home team game 5.

I think the #1 seed should always have the opportunity to end it in 4-5 games and celebrate on their floor for such dominance. The lower seed team gets game 6 then game seven back to the #1 seed.

My format would be:
Game 1 - Higher seed
Game 2 & 3- Lower seed
Game 4 & 5 - Higher seed
Game 6 - Lower seed
Game 7 - Higher seed

This would never happen due to traveling issues, but would give each team a 50/50 chance to win by promoting dominance from the higher seed, or rewarding Resiliency from the lower seeds.

im a 2-3-2 guy as well. it has the least travel days. if the higher seed loses one of their first two home games, and also cant win one of their road games, they are probably not the better team.

I agree with your goal of letting the home team celebrate sweeps on their own floor but also agree that travel would make it hard to go 1-2-1 in the first four. Travel could be streamlined by going A-A-H-H-H-A-H, which still lets the overseed celebrate on their own floor when they win in 4 or 5.

The 1978 finals had a weird format. Not sure any other finals had it this way. It was 1-2-2-1-1. Think it was because of scheduling issues at the arenas, which wouldnt happen today.

Only reason I disagree with that format is it would take away from the 1st game home court advantage aspect of having a higher seed. It just may be perfect the way it is.
