[Wiretap] Bojan Bogdanovic announces retirement from NBA

Post#1 » by GSWFan1994 » Mon Jun 30, 2025 1:18 pm

I don't think this was posted here amidst all the other news from the past couple of days.

Anyway, just saw it on the Wiretap:

Bojan Bogdanovic Retires From NBA After 10 Seasons

Bojan Bogdanovic has announced his retirement from the NBA after 10 seasons in the league.

"Sometimes in life, you don't choose the moment. The moment chooses you," the 6-foot-7 forward wrote in a social media post. "After 14 months of battling a foot injury, two surgeries and countless efforts to get back on the court, the time has come to close a chapter."

Bogdanovic spent the first 55 games of the 2016-17 season with the Nets then finished the campaign with the Washington Wizards after a trade-deadline deal. He also played for the Indiana Pacers (2017-19), Utah Jazz (2019-22), Detroit Pistons (2022-24) and New York Knicks (2024).

He missed the 2024-25 season because of the foot injury.

He was already 36 and really struggled with injuries in the past 3 years.

The Knicks traded for him thinking he would be a great 6th man, but he barely played for them.

All in all, a pretty nice career for a 31st pick... 16/4/2 averages, a couple of 20 ppg seasons, 11k total points.

Sayonara, Bojan.

Always liked him. Impressive career after he joined the NBA at age 25. His career 3P% is only slightly below Reggie Miller.

Enjoy your life, Bojan.

He should be very proud. Lasted 10 years in the league, got over $143M+ from his time in the league and should enjoy the fruits of his labour.

Really loved him in his prime. Underrated guy who was an absolute sniper.

Injury is career killer indeed.

He will be missed, super reliable sniper, knew exactly what you would get from him game to game. Reliable vet and smart off ball shooter, decent 2nd ball handler.

He was allways annoying to face when he with Jazz. Could just go off for 20-25 pts at any pt in very quiet way.

He was a real weapon at his peak.
Peaked as a scorer in Utah, where he was an impossible matchup for most defenses. Too big as a driver to put a guard on, too dangerous from deep to put your big on. He was kind of a throwback euro combo forward. Defenses really had to throw more than they wanted at him to mitgate his scoring threat. Offensively he was a perfect scoring option to play next to a star.

He was a better 2-way player in Indiana, where he was big and mobile enough to play strong man-to-man defense. He never really brought much as a team defender though. He did have a bunch of memorable stops on Lebron in the playoffs though. He can show his grandchildren that.

I like that he got a Blake Griffin/Jerami Grant style 1st option season with Detroit, him showing a 3 level scoring season was awesome for his last hoorah in the league.

He did way way better than I would have thought he would do, but I have seen many Euroleague stars flop in the NBA to a point I am just a natural pessimist when it comes to that. One of the last great Croatian players, with their basketball being at disarray right now, this is a big loss, we now only left with Zubac and Hezonja as Croatian stars, few guys are in the NBA like Matković and Sarić, but they aren't significant enough players to move things upward.

I finally figured them all out, and Bojan goes and retires on us. Go figure.

Good career, Bojan. Enjoy retirement.

I hate that I had to google to remember which one we were talking about.

Either way, still an impactful career and sucks that it had to end like that for him but cool that he did it on his own terms rather than wasting a season or two of his life traveling around and sitting on the bench.

Dude was a killer for us for those few seasons. Gave us some monster shooting performances when we needed them and was clutch as hell:

He was definitely one of the better players to come out of ex-yu in general. Dude looked awesome when healthy and had some nice games in the POs with Indiana.

Bogey was great when he was on the Jazz. Hit some big shots and some game winners.

He's arguably the biggest FA signing the Jazz ever had too.

As far as non-stars are involved, he really had an amazing prime.

In his 5 years with Indiana and Utah (from age 28 to age 32), he averaged 17.4 PPG, 3.9 RPG and 1.8 APG on 46.3% from the field, 40.3% from 3 and 86.1% from the FT line (.556 eFG% as well). These are really, really solid numbers for a player who isn't a star (and isn't being paid like one either).

And you knew that you could rely on him to play as well. Throughout these 5 seasons, he missed a grand total of 17 games, 13 of them on that final season with the Jazz (21-22). In the prior 4 seasons, he only missed a total of 4 games (2 in 17-18, 1 in 18-19, 1 in 19-20 and 0 in 20-21).

So, yeah, for about half of his NBA career, he was a sort of an ironman that would reliably give you efficient scoring (both from inside and outside the arc) on pretty good volume. In that respect, he wasn't much different than someone like Mikal Bridges (granted, Bridges is better defensively) and that's a damn good player.

I will always, always remember and cherish the 2018 playoffs when the Pacers faced the LeBron-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1st round (despite finishing 5th) and pushing the eventual Finalists to 7 games. It was Bojan Bogdanovic and Thaddeus Young who were tasked with defending LeBron James and they both did a heck of a job. Bojan even exploded for 30 points in that game 3. I know that the Pacers have had a couple of much better playoff runs since then (obviously, given this season's run) but, still, Bojan earned every Pacer fan's respect during that playoff series.

Yep. How wouldn't he? He always played (and injuries can really hurt you in fantasy), he consistently scored in the double digits and he consistently hit 3s. Sure, he wouldn't really give you much outside of scoring and 3-point shooting but he did consistently give you those two.

And, speaking of his consistence as a double-digit scorer. In these 5 seasons with Indiana and Utah, he played a total of 365 games. Wanna know how many times he scored less than 10 points in a game? 54 times. In 365 games. That's 14.8%.

Wanna know how many times he scored 20 or more? 131 times. That's 35.9%.

So, we're talking about a guy who scored in the double digits more than 85% of the time and upped that scoring to 20 or more on a pretty good basis to boot.

And, again, he always played. So, yeah, he was a very consistent fantasy player.
